Technology Roadmap for High Altitude Airship, Based on Conceptual Design of an Airship System
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mazaheri, Karim (Supervisor)
Abstract
The main focus of this project is to define necessary technologies in design and production of a high altitude airship and provide a roadmap that show how appropriate actions can be conducted toward technology, product and market in the next ten years in Iran. Here, we have surveyed the role of design parameters in the performance of high altitude airship. In the sequel according to the specific final mission, the required technologies and infrastructures are defined. The case of airship technology acquisition for Iran basically can be adapted to the “Technology Catchup”. Hence, we propose a new methodology to provide a technology roadmap with the “technology catchup” approach, then develop...
Investigating the Impact of Key Innovation Variables on the Level of Technological Catch up: A Comparison between High and Middle Income Countries
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Miremadi, Iman (Supervisor)
Abstract
Today, innovation plays an essential role in the economic growth of countries. By evaluating technological capabilities, different approaches have considered important effects of innovation on the economic ability and superiority of countries either directly or indirectly. In recent years, the Global Innovation Index (GII) has been employed as a common framework in this respect. It consists of five components, including “institutions,” “human capital and research,” “infrastructure,” “market sophistication,” and “business sophistication,” as the inputs, and two components, including the “knowledge and technology outputs” and “creative outputs” as the outputs of innovation. The present study...
Analyzing the Effects of Technology Domain’s Life Cycle on the Latecomers’ Catchup: Renewable Energy Industries Case Study
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Maleki, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Technological catchup has been one of the topics of interest for researchers and policymakers, especially in developing countries, and has been studied from various dimensions. The catchup in the renewable energy industries is important due to the possibility of benefiting from its economic dimensions along with responding to the growing energy demand in these countries, as well as accessing the sustainable sources of energy supply. In the literature, various dimensions have been studied to investigate the factors affecting the technological catchup, one of the most important of them is the technology life cycle. In answer to the question of what stages of the technological area life cycle...
A dynamic multi-sector analysis of technological catch-up: The impact of technology cycle times, knowledge base complexity and variety

Abstract
This article contributes to the ongoing debate about whether, how, and under what conditions latecomer countries can become producers of new technology and innovation, thereby catching up with technological leaders. Recent work on sectoral systems of innovation and in the evolutionary economics literature suggests that successful latecomers can move into new technological or industrial domains. They specialise in domains that present more frequent windows of opportunity, shorter technological cycles, flatter learning curves and easier access to relevant knowledge than others. This study investigates the role and significance of two hitherto neglected dimensions of technological regimes that...
The impact of technological and social capabilities on innovation performance: a technological catch-up perspective

Abstract
The literature on technological capabilities has highlighted the effects of innovation on economic growth. However, further analysis is required to determine how innovation factors affect the technological catch-up process outputs. The main purpose of the present study is therefore to determine the impacts of innovation-building factors (i.e., technological and social capabilities) on the innovation outputs. The role of market and innovation financing in technological catch-up has also been investigated. Partial least squares structural equation modeling has been employed to identify which factors have the most significant effects on this process. We have extracted twelve hypotheses from the...
