Study of Physical Properties of Poly(1,3 Butadiene-co-Acrylic acid-co-Acrylonitrile) Terpolymer

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tati, Ali (Author) ; Musavi, Abbas (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Butadiene is one of the most widely used materials in the Iran polymer industry. In order to use this material in the first step, the inhibitor must be separated. Consequently, at the start of the project, the separation of Tert butylcatechol inhibitors from butadiene was studied by the adsorption process on active alumina. The results of the condensed butadiene gas chromatography–mass spectrometry test indicate that, by using the active alumina as an adsorbent, the tert butylcatechol will be removed completely. In the next step, 1,3 butadiene, acrylonitrile, acrylic acid acid terpolymer, which one of its applications is manufacturing of artificial teeth, was synthesized by emulsion...

Fabrication and Properties Investigation of Acrylamide Terpolymer Containing Silica Nanoparticles to Use in Drilling Fluids

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghaderi, Saeed (Author) ; Ramazani, Ahmad (Supervisor) ; Haddadi, Arash (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Most used polymers, such as hydrolyzed polyacrylamide, are not able to withstand high levels of salinity and high temperature of the reservoirs. To overcome these problems, in this project, new types of microstructures based on modified acrylamide with hydrophilic groups (malic anhydride monomer) and hydrophobic groups (styrene monomer) using inversible mini-emulsion were synthesized. The structure of the synthesized terpolymer was investigated using methods of FT-IR and 1H NMR. The micro-structure and the particle-size of the terpolymer particles were studied with the scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and differential light scattering (DLS) method and the results showed that the average...

    Abstract
The purpose of this study was the production of copolymers and terpolymers with highly hydrophilic–hydrophobic properties, using inexpensive and available monomers as potential enhancing oil recovery (EOR) and water production control agents for high-temperature and high-salinity (HTHS) oil reservoirs. For this purpose, several copolymers and terpolymers with different molar percentage of acrylamide/styrene, acrylamide/maleic anhydride, and acrylamide/styrene/maleic anhydride were synthesized by the inverse emulsion polymerization technique. The presence of hydrophobic styrene and hydrophilic maleic anhydride monomers in the copolymer and terpolymer structure, provided some unique properties...

In Situ Preparation of Acrylamide-Styrene- Maleic Anhydride Nano Hydrogels and Investigation of their Properties

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Lalehgani, Zahra (Author) ; Ramazani Saadatabadi, Ahmad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Among the methods for increasing chemical oil extraction, the polymeric flood method has the most commercialization capability. However, most commonly used polymers such as Hydrolyzed Polyacrylamide (HPAM) are not able to withstand high levels of salinity and high temperatures. To overcome these problems,in this project, new types of polymer nanostructures were synthesized with hydrophobic groups consisting of styrene (hydrophilic monomer) and malic anhydride (hydrophilic monomer) acrylamide (hydrophilic monomer). These polymers were synthesized by reversible mini-emulsion by adjusting the synthesis conditions for the purpose of producing the terpolymer with suitable conditions for tolerating...

    Abstract
Although polyacrylamides and theirs modified polymers have an extremely application in the industry mechanical weakness, such as viscosity in salinity or high temperature cause this polymer loss your functional application. In recent years, many endeavors due as modified this polymer by hydrophobics monomers were done but unfortunately don’t have a significant result. Modified acrylamide monomer and hydrophobic mini-emulsion were survey Most used polymers, such as hydrolyzed polyacrylamide, are not able to high levels of salinity and high temperature of the reservoirs. Dr. Ramazani and theirs group use innovational idea of hydrophilic monomers for overcome to this problem. In this project,...

Preparation of Acrylamide Copolymers Containing Highly Hydrophobic Monomers and Study on Their Drag Reduction Properties

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Dadkhah, Parsa (Author) ; Ramazani Saadatabadi, Ahmad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
With the rapid increase of energy consumption, energy problem has been a global issue, which must be faced with and solved. One way to prevent energy consumption is to reduce drag in the flow inside the pipes by using polymer additives; Because the Transportation of liquids using pipeline technology has its limitations, since turbulent flow inside the pipe involves a loss of energy. The net effect of this is that increasing the energy applied to the flow does not increase the flow rate. For this purpose, copolymers and terpolymers of hydrophilic acrylamide monomers along with hydrophobic styrene and hydrophilic maleic anhydride monomers were synthesized by reverse emulsion polymerization...

Applications of highly salt and highly temperature resistance terpolymer of acrylamide/styrene/maleic anhydride monomers as a rheological modifier: Rheological and corrosion protection properties studies

    Abstract
Due to the weak performance of commercially affordable natural and synthetic polymeric thickeners in high temperatures and salinity, they fail to use in many applications especially in saline conditions with high temperatures. In this work, a new salt and temperature resistance acrylamide/styrene/maleic anhydride terpolymer (PASM-t) with self-associative properties was synthesized via a one-step inverse emulsion polymerization and its applicability as a rheological modifier and thickener was investigated. The characteristics of synthesized PASM-t (s-PASM-t) and its aqueous solutions were investigated using FT-IR, FE-SEM, GPC and rheometric mechanical spectrometry (RMS) analyses. The...

    Abstract
This work focused on the design of new pH-responsive nanoparticles for controlled delivery of anticancer drug doxorubicin (Dox). Nanoparticles of poly(methacrylic acid)-polysorbate 80-grafted starch (PMAA-PS 80-g-St) were synthesized by using a one-pot method that enabled simultaneous grafting of PMAA and PS 80 onto starch and nanoparticle formation in an aqueous medium. The particles were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, TEM, DLS, and potentiometric titration. Dox loading and in vitro release from the nanoparticles were investigated. The FTIR and 1H NMR confirmed the chemical composition of the graft terpolymer. The nanoparticles were relatively spherical with narrow size distribution and...

    Abstract
In this study, water-soluble terpolymers containing highly hydrophilic monomers of acrylamide and maleic anhydride and highly hydrophobic monomers of styrene were synthesized (ASM) through the one-step inverse emulsion polymerization. Thermal stability and thermal decomposition steps of ASM were studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). An Ubbelhode capillary viscometer and a rheological mechanical spectrometer (RMS) were employed to obtain the specific, relative, and...
