Security and Configuration Improvement in TETRA Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bahrami, Hengameh (Author) ; Haj Sadeghi, Khosrow (Supervisor)
    Abstract
TETRA (TErrestrial Trunked RAdio) is one of the mobile telecommunication standards which has improved in several aspects (voice, data, video, coverage, etc.), especially the security section during the last two decades. Although communication could be quite secure in TETRA when the encryption is used, however, attackers create new ways to bypass the encryption without the knowledge of the legitimate user. Security is performed in different levels and forms to create reliable operation and to protect information through the transmission path from interception and tampering. Since most of the TETRA users require the highest possible level of security, in this thesis we introduce a new...

Performance evaluation and enhancement of random access procedure in TETRA networks

    , Article 2010 6th Conference on Wireless Advanced, WiAD 2010, 27 June 2010 through 29 June 2010 ; June , 2010 ; 9781424470716 (ISBN) Azizzadeh, F ; Ghorashi, S. A ; Khodaian, A. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, random access procedure in terrestrial trunked radio (TETRA) networks is described and modeled. Then, the impact of different random access parameters on performance metrics such as "delay" and "throughput" is evaluated. Moreover, in order to have a fast "call setup" which is one of the most important features of TETRA, it is shown that random access delay can be minimized, while maintaining peak throughput. by adaptively adjusting the random access parameters according to the backlogged traffic. The performance improvement of the proposed adaptive parameter adjustment is proved via extensive simulation results

    Abstract
Abstract: The present research comes up with optimizing the layers thickness of a Ruddlesden–Popper perovskite with the general formula of (S0.97S0.03 ')2[Cs0.05(FA0.097MA0.03)0.95]n – 1Pbn(I0.97Br0.03)3n + 1 for efficient, stable solar cell applications. Such a triple-cation quasi-two-dimensional (2D) structure simultaneously contains two spacers, namely 5-ammonium valeric acid iodide (S) and tetra-n-octylammonium bromide (S'). Systematic studies showed that morphology, crystal structure, optical properties, photovoltaic performance, and internal resistances of this compound depended upon the value of the n integer. Field emission scanning electron microscopy set forth that the deposited...

    Abstract
An exact vibration-rotation kinetic energy operator for polyatomic molecules has been obtained. Using this Hamiltonian for sequentially bonded tetra-atomic molecules, all rovibrational terms have been derived with internal coordinates as the vibrational variables. The present approach is greatly simplified with less algebra compared with conventional methods. Also, simple and explicit expressions for the vibration-rotation coupling terms in internal coordinates are presented

Circuit design to improve security of telecommunication devices

    , Article 2017 IEEE 7th Annual Computing and Communication Workshop and Conference, CCWC 2017, 9 January 2017 through 11 January 2017 ; 2017 ; ISBN: 978-150904228-9 Bahrami, H ; Hajsadeghi, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Security in mobile handsets of telecommunication standards such as GSM, Project 25 and TETRA is very important, especially when governments and military forces use handsets and telecommunication devices. Although telecommunication could be quite secure by using encryption, coding, tunneling and exclusive channel, attackers create new ways to bypass them without the knowledge of the legitimate user. In this paper we introduce a new, simple and economical circuit to warn the user in cases where the message is not encrypted because of manipulation by attackers or accidental damage. This circuit not only consumes very low power but also is created to sustain telecommunication devices in aspect...

    Abstract
Self-assembled dandelion-like hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanostructures were successfully synthesized via a mild template-free hydrothermal process, using ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) as the surfactant. The obtained dandelion-like HAp nanostructures were between 5 and 8 μm in diameter and were composed of radially oriented nanorods with an average diameter of about 200 nm. The X-ray diffraction analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were used to characterize the crystalline phase and purity of the synthesized nanostructures. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area of the dandelion-like nanostructures was measured to be about 39 m2/g. The results of thermal analysis revealed...

    Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine whether specific three-dimensional aortic shape features, extracted via statistical shape analysis (SSA), correlate with the development of thoracic ascending aortic dissection (TAAD) risk and associated aortic hemodynamics. Thirty-one patients followed prospectively with ascending thoracic aortic aneurysm (ATAA), who either did (12 patients) or did not (19 patients) develop TAAD, were included in the study, with aortic arch geometries extracted from computed tomographic angiography (CTA) imaging. Arch geometries were analyzed with SSA, and unsupervised and supervised (linked to dissection outcome) shape features were extracted with principal component...

    Abstract
A novel sulfoxide containing bis(ether amine) monomer, 2,2'-sulfoxide- bis[4-methyl(2-trifluoromethyl)4-aminophenoxy) phenyl ether] (M2), was synthesized from the halogen displacement of 2-chloro-5-nitrobenzotrifluoride with dibenzosulfoxide (DH) in the presence of potassium carbonate, followed by catalytic reduction of bis(ether nitro) intermediate with Zinc/Ammonium chloride. A series of organic-soluble poly(ether amide)s (PA1-7) bearing sulfoxide and electronwithdrawing trifiuoromethyl group were synthesized from bis(ether amine) with various aromatic diacids (1-7) via a direct polycondensation with triphenyl phosphite and pyridine. The resulting polymers had inherent viscosities ranging...

Silica aerogel coated on metallic wire by phase separation of polystyrene for in–tube solid phase microextraction

    , Article Journal of Chromatography A ; Volume 1500 , 2017 , Pages 69-75 ; 00219673 (ISSN) Baktash, M. Y ; Bagheri, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this research, an attempt was made toward synthesizing a sol–gel–based silica aerogel and its subsequent coating on a copper wire by phase separation of polystyrene. Adaption of this new approach enabled us to coat the metallic wire with powder materials. The use of this method for coating, led to the formation of a porous and thick structure of silica aerogel. The coated wire was placed in a needle and used as the sorbent for in–tube solid phase microextraction of chlorobenzenes (CBs). The superhydrophobicity of sorbent on extraction efficiency was investigated by using different ratios of tetraethylorthosilicate/methyltrimethoxysilane. The surface coated with the prepared silica aerogel...
