    Abstract
Nowadays, two-dimensional materials due to their vast engineering and biomedical applications have been the focus of many researches. The present paper proposes a large-deformation theory for thin plates with application to one-atom-thick layers (OATLs). The deformation is formulated exactly in the mathematical framework of Lagrangian description. In particular, an exact finite strain analysis is given - in addition to the usual strain tensor associated to the middle surface, the second and third fundamental forms of the middle surface of the deformed thin plate are also maintained in the analysis. Exact closed-form solutions for a uniaxially curved thin plate due to pure bending in one case...

Electro-oxidation of alcohols on nickel dispersed in poly-o-aminophenol modified graphite electrode

    Abstract
Electro-oxidation of alcohols (methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol and 2-propanol) on nickel dispersed into a thick layer of poly-o-aminophenol on graphite electrode (GE/POAP-SDS/Ni) was investigated. Ni-doping into the polymeric film was achieved chemically followed by enrichment of Ni(III) through cycling the potential. The electro-oxidation of alcohols on GE/POAP-SDS/Ni were found to be dominated by direct electro-oxidation with some contribution from Ni(II)/Ni(III) couple. Rate constants for the electro-oxidation of methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol and 2-propanol as derived by chronoamperometry were 1.65 × 105, 1.31 × 105, 2.53 × 104 and 1.40 × 104 cm3 mol-1 s-1, respectively. Impedance...

Silver nanocube crystals on titanium nitride buffer layer

    , Article Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics ; Volume 42, Issue 10 , 2009 ; 00223727 (ISSN) Akhavan, O ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
Thermally stable cubic silver nanoparticles were grown by simply annealing a silver nano-thickness layer on a crystalline TiN buffer layer deposited on a Si(1 0 0) substrate. Formation of silver nanocubes was investigated by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, x-ray diffractometry and UV-visible spectroscopy. The shapes of the silver nanoparticles were controlled by the thickness of the Ag layer. The silver nanocubes were self-ordered single crystals bounded mainly by {1 0 0} facets. It was found that a change in the shape of the nanoparticles from semi-spherical to cubic resulted in a substantial variation of their surface plasmon resonance absorption peak from 410 to 590...

CVD synthesis of small-diameter single-walled carbon nanotubes on silicon

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 16, Issue 1 D , 2009 , Pages 61-64 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Arjmandi, N ; Sasanpour, P ; Rashidian, B ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A simple process for the chemical vapor deposition of ultra SD single-wall carbon nanotubes has been developed. In this process, an iron nitrate nonahydrate solution in isopropyl alcohol with a concentration of (400 μgr/milt) was used to catalyst nanoparticle formation on an oxidized silicon wafer. The oxide on the substrate was made of a thick layer of wet oxide sandwiched between two thin layers of dry oxide. The process results in semiconducting Single-Walled carbon Nano Tubes (SWNTs) with diameters of less than 0.7 nm and more than a 1 ev band gap energy, which are amongst the smallest diameters of SWNTs ever reported. © Sharif University of Technology, June 2009

    Abstract
In this study, the heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics of a three-dimensional microchannel that is partially filled with a layer of porous medium at its bottom solid wall is investigated. The microchannel is consisted of a clear fluid flow region, solid walls and a porous layer that is attached to its solid bottom wall. A constant heat flux is applied to the bottom wall of the microchannel. Darcy-Brinkman-Forchheimer model is used to simulate the fluid flow inside the porous medium. The novelty of this work is to investigate thoroughly and precisely the effect of using of porous layer configuration in MCHSs on hydraulic and thermal performances. The effect of porous layer thickness,...
