    Over the past few years, time-periodic and space-time-periodic media have garnered a considerable amount of attention, thanks to their exotic and unique interactions with electromagnetic phenomena. These media do not generally comport with Lorentz's reciprocity theorem, thus can be utilized in order to implement non-reciprocal amplification and frequency transformation. One class of such media, that have been the subject of less discussion and interest, are space-time periodic diffraction gratings.In this thesis, we aim to develop a series of semi-analytical methods in order to analyze such structures.     We investigate the possibility of frequency conversion in time-varying metasurfaces, composed of graphene microribbon arrays (GMRAs) with time-periodic modulation of their conductivity. We present a quasi-static model for the interaction of light with a temporally modulated metasurface, as well as an accurate analytical treatment of the problem of time-varying GMRAs.     Floquet dynamical quantum phase transitions (FDQPTs) are signified by recurrent nonanalytic behaviors of observables in time. In this work, we introduce a quench-free and generic approach to engineer and control FDQPTs for both pure and mixed Floquet states. By applying time-periodic modulations with two driving frequencies to a general class of spin chain model, we find multiple FDQPTs within each driving period.     Reliability methods are employed in this paper to analyze the seismic risk to the Vancouver metropolitan region in Canada. The use of reliability methods contrasts with several contemporary approaches for risk analysis. In this paper, two analysis approaches are presented and implemented in a new computer program. One utilizes the first-order and second-order reliability methods together with a hazard combination technique. The other is a sampling-based method that repeatedly generates damage scenarios in the time period of interest.     In this paper, we enhance previously suggested vulnerability estimation techniques by presenting a detailed modeling technique based on Input-to-Output Masking (IOM). Moreover we use our model to compute the System-level Vulnerability Factor (SVF) for data-path components in a highperformance processor. As we show, recent suggested estimation techniques overlook the issue of error masking, mainly focusing on time periods in which an error could potentially propagate in the system.     Some cis-dioxomolybdenum (VI) complexes with tridentate Schiff base ligands derived from salicylaldehyde and aminophenols, aminoalcohol or o-aminobenzenethiol were examined as catalysts for epoxidation of different aliphatic and aromatic olefins, with tert-butyl hydroperoxide as oxidant. All complexes exhibited high activity and selectivity for epoxidation of aliphatic substrates during a short time period (95% conversion of cyclooctene after 30 min).     The transient flow of a compressible gas generated in a pipeline after an accidental rupture is studied numerically. The numerical simulation is performed by solving the conservation equations of an axisymmetric, transient, viscous, subsonic flow in a circular pipe including the breakpoint. The numerical technique is a combined finite element-finite volume method applied on the unstructured grid.
