Optimal Distributed Generation Allocation and Sizing Considering Operation Indices

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghanbari, Niloofar (Author) ; Mokhtari, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The need for independent power generation has been increased in recent years with the growing demand in micro grid systems. Losses in power systems are unavoidable. These losses occur in transmission to distributionnetworks from the generation sites to the end-user loads. Reduction of power losses has been one of the reasons for engineers to be attracted by micro grid systems which include small size independent power generation units. However, in a micro grid with several DGs of different types and with all kinds of loads of variable nature, an optimal power balance in the system has to be achieved. This optimal objective, which results in minimal energy losses over a specific period of...

    Abstract
The need for independent power generation has increased in recent years, especially with the growing demand in microgrid systems. In a microgrid with several generations of different types and with all kinds of loads of variable nature, an optimal power balance in the system has to be achieved. This optimal objective, which results in minimal energy losses over a specific period of time, requires an optimal location and sizing of the distributed generations (DGs) in a microgrid. This paper proposes a new optimization method in which both optimal location of the DGs and their generation profile according to the load demand profile as well as the type of DG are determined during the life time...

Optimal Distributed Generation Allocation Considering Power Qaulity Indices

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Golzari, Hamid (Author) ; Mokhtari, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The demand for independent power generation has been increased in recent years due to the growing demand in distributed networks, losses and power qaulity in power systems. These losses occur in transmission to distribution networks from the generation sites to the end-user loads which have harmonic losses besides fundamental losses.. The non-linear load makes the harmonics flow in the line and create the harmonic losses. However, in a distributed network with several DGs of different types and with all kinds of variable nature loads, an optimal power balance in the system has to be achieved. This optimal objective, which results in minimal energy losses over a specific period of time,...

    Abstract
We propose novel techniques to find the optimal location, size, and power factor of distributed generation (DG) to achieve the maximum loss reduction for distribution networks. Determining the optimal DG location and size is achieved simultaneously using the energy loss curves technique for a pre-selected power factor that gives the best DG operation. Based on the network's total load demand, four DG sizes are selected. They are used to form energy loss curves for each bus and then for determining the optimal DG options. The study shows that by defining the energy loss minimization as the objective function, the time-varying load demand significantly affects the sizing of DG resources in...
