#### Perfect state transfer on spin-1 chains

, Article Quantum Information Processing ; Vol. 13, issue. 3 , 2014 , pp. 601-614 ; ISSN: 15700755 ; Karimipour, V ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract

We show that networks of spin-1 particles connected in a special geometry and subject to Affleck-Kennedy-Lieb-Tasaki (AKLT) interaction are capable of perfectly transferring states of particles (qubits and qutrits) if we also allow a global control of the network in predetermined time intervals. The geometry can be one, two, and three dimensional. The strengths of the couplings have the same modulus, and only their signs differ on various bonds. Any particle which is routed in the network acquires relative phase shifts which can be corrected after it is extracted from the network. An advantage of this protocol is that one can route more than one particle through the network simultaneously....

#### Simulation of droplet trains in microfluidic networks

, Article Physical Review E - Statistical, Nonlinear, and Soft Matter Physics ; Volume 82, Issue 3 , September , 2010 ; 15393755 (ISSN) ; Seyed Allaei, H ; Ejtehadi, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract

We show that in a microfluidic network with low Reynolds numbers, a system can be irreversible due to hysteresis effects. We simulated a network of pipes that was used in a recent experiment. The network consists of one loop connected to input and output pipes. A train of droplets enters the system at a uniform rate, but the droplets may leave the system in a periodic or even a chaotic pattern. The output pattern depends on the time interval between incoming droplets as well as the network geometry. For some parameters, the system is not reversible

Abstract

Knowing the exact pressure of the process has a great impact on the validity of the results, product quality, energy efficiency, and in some processes, on the security of work with the system. Hence, the calibration of the barometers and the accuracy of the readings should be taken seriously. Choosing the appropriate time interval for re-calibration is done according to the extent and conditions of use, uncertainty, and the inaccuracy allowed in measurement, constructive suggestion, and some other things. Failure to pay attention to the importance of periodic calibration in vacuum gauges leads to some irreparable losses in the research project and the vacuum generator system. In this study,...

, Article Metrology and Measurement Systems ; Vol. 21, issue. 3 , Aug , 2014 , p. 433-446 ; 08608229 ; Khalafi, H ; Vosoughi, N ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract

An embedded time interval data acquisition system (DAS) is developed for zero power reactor (ZPR) noise experiments. The system is capable of measuring the correlation or probability distribution of a random process. The design is totally implemented on a single Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The architecture is tested on different FPGA platforms with different speed grades and hardware resources. Generic experimental values for time resolution and inter-event dead time of the system are 2.22 ns and 6.67 ns respectively. The DAS can record around 48-bit × 790 kS/s utilizing its built-in fast memory. The system can measure very long time intervals due to its 48-bit timing structure...

#### Nonholonomic motion planning based on optimal control for flight phases of planar bipedal running

, Article Electronics Letters ; Volume 47, Issue 20 , 2011 , Pages 1120-1122 ; 00135194 (ISSN) ; Akbari Hamed, K ; Dumont, G. A ; Graver, W. A ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract

Presented is a novel approach for online trajectory modification of joint motions to transfer a free open kinematic chain, undergoing flight phase, from a specified initial configuration to a specified final configuration. Formally, it is assumed that a nominal trajectory, computed offline, can reorient the kinematic chain (reconfiguration problem) for a given angular momentum on a time interval. A modification algorithm of body joints, based on optimal control, is developed such that for different angular momentums and time intervals, the same reconfiguration problem can be solved online. This approach can be utilised for space robotics applications and online computation of planar running...

#### One-for-one period policy in a two-echelon inventory system with commoncycle and poisson demand rate for retailers

, Article 2009 International Conference on Computers and Industrial Engineering, CIE 2009 ; 2009 , Pages 831-834 ; 9781424441365 (ISBN) ; Tayebi, H ; Haji, B ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract

This paper deals with a two-echelon inventory system consisting of onesupplier and N retailers. Each retailer faces an independent Poisson demand withthe same rate and applies a new ordering policy called one-for-one- periodordering policy for its inventory control. In this ordering policy the ordersize is equal to one and the time interval between any two consecutive ordersforms a common fixed cycle. Thus, the supplier faces a deterministic demand andadopts a deterministic inventory policy. At each cycle he orders a batch of sizeN to his own supplier. Upon receipt of each batch he sends 1 unit of theproduct to each retailer with a transportation cost. In this paper, for theabove system we...

#### Finding gamma ray events by the method of obtaining poisson distribution from data collected by an array of Cherenkov detectors

, Article 31st International Cosmic Ray Conference, ICRC 2009, 7 July 2009 through 15 July 2009, Lodz ; 2009 ; Qomi, M. K ; Samimi, J ; Hamedivafa, H ; Sheidaei, F ; Bahmanabadi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract

a small array of Water Cherenkov Detectors (WCDs) has recorded 600000 events related to extensive air showers in Tehran during one year at an altitude of 1200m. By employing the method of obtaining count in each time interval distributions we obtained the distribution of extensive air showers. 17 events were found in our data set which are more probable to be related to primary gamma ray photons. For more certainty we did a simulation to compare acquired results from simulation and data to become sure if 17 extensive air showers are electromagnetic or not

#### Towards the optimal tracking interval management for target tracking wireless sensor networks

, Article ATC 2009 - Proceedings of the 2009 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications, 12 October 2009 through 14 October 2009 ; 2009 , Pages 161-166 ; 9781424451395 (ISBN) ; Abolhassani, B ; Abdizadeh, M ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract

We consider the minimization of power consumption in target tracking wireless sensor networks (WSNs) using dynamic modification of tracking interval. In this context, we first analyze the performance of such networks, using a quantitative mathematical analysis. Then we calculate an upper bound for the achievable improvement in total power consumption, when using an adaptive time interval modification algorithm for tracking moving objects with acceleration. Towards this optimum functionality, we propose a novel adaptive algorithm (AHC) to adapt the tracking interval such that it minimizes power consumption while keeping an acceptable accuracy. Simulation results show that using the proposed...

#### A sampled-data algorithm for flocking of multi-Agent systems

, Article 7th Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, IRANOPEN 2017, 9 April 2017 ; 2017 , Pages 147-152 ; 9781538628621 (ISBN) ; Haeri, M ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract

This paper investigates a new algorithm for flocking of multi-Agent systems with virtual leader. In this algorithm, unlike the existing algorithms, receiving of information by agents are not continuous and it is assumed that each agents receives information of neighbors and virtual leader as sampled data in fixed time intervals. A sufficient condition on sampling period is derived to guarantee the velocity convergence of agents to that of virtual leader, preserve network connectivity, and ensure collision avoidance. Finally, a numerical simulation is provided to illustrate the theoretical results. © 2017 IEEE

#### Search for Gamma-Ray events in ALBORZ observatory data

Abstract

At ALBORZ Observatory in Tehran (51° 200 , 35 ° 430' , 1200 m) we accumulated a complete year of data by a 4-fold square array of Water Cherenkov Detectors (WCDs) with the side 6.08 m. It is recorded about 800,000 fine EAS events from 2006/11/12 to 2007/11/20 by the approximate recording rate of 0.03. Time differences between each two, three, four, five and ... have a very good agreement with gammafunction, which shows the correct random nature of the events. Of course we expect that about less than 1% of the EAS events (≤9000 events) be electromagnetic and naturally not random, but the contribution is so small. Then by Farley/Storey procedure [1] we found a signature of real sidereal data....

#### One-for-one period policy in a two-echelon inventory system with poisson demand and constraint on total lost sales

, Article 2009 IEEE/INFORMS International Conference on Service Operations, Logistics and Informatics, SOLI 2009, Chicago, IL, 22 July 2009 through 24 July 2009 ; 2009 , Pages 74-77 ; 9781424435418 (ISBN) ; Haji, B ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract

In this paper we consider a two- echelon inventory system consisting of one supplier and a number of retailers with independent Poisson demand. Unsatisfied demands in retailers are lost and it is assumed that there is a constraint on total lost sales for the system. Each retailer applies a new ordering policy called one-fer-one-peried ordering policy for its inventory control. In this ordering policy the order size is equal to one and the time interval between any two consecutive orders is fixed. Thus, the supplier faces a uniform and deterministic demand originated from each retailer and applies one for one ordering policy in response to orders received from all retailers. For this system...

#### A new adaptive prediction-based tracking scheme for wireless sensor networks

, Article Proceedings of the 7th Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference, CNSR 2009, 11 May 2009 through 13 May 2009, Moncton, NB ; 2009 , Pages 335-341 ; 9780769536491 (ISBN) ; Abolhassani, B ; Abdizadeh, M. T ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract

The accuracy of the object tracking is dependent on the tracking time interval. Smaller tracking time interval increases the accuracy of tracking a moving object. However, this increases the power consumption significantly. This paper proposes a new adaptive algorithm (AEC) to adapt tracking time interval such that it minimizes power consumption while keeping the required accuracy. Simulation results show that using the proposed algorithm, the tracking network has a good performance with the added advantage of reducing the power consumption significantly when compared with existing nonadaptive methods (like PATES). Moreover, simulation results show that the performance of the proposed...

#### A history based semantic aware access control model using logical time

, Article Proceedings of 11th International Conference on Computer and Information Technology, ICCIT 2008, 25 December 2008 through 27 December 2008, Khulna ; 2008 , Pages 43-50 ; 9781424421367 (ISBN) ; Amini, M ; Jalili, R ; Jafarian, J. H ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract

With the advent of semantic technology' access control cannot be done in a safe way unless the access decision takes into account the semantic relationships among the entities in a semantic-aware environment. The SBAC model (Semantic Based Access Control model) considers this issue in its decision making process. However' time plays a crucial role in new computing environments'which is not supported in SBAC. In this paper' we propose the Temporal Semantic Based Access Control (TSBAC) model' as an extension of SBAC' which enhances the specification of user-defined authorization rules by constraining time interval and temporal expression over users' history of accesses. TSBAC uses logical...

#### An analytical model for molecular communication over a non-linear reaction-diffusion medium

Abstract

One of the main challenges in diffusion-based molecular communication is dealing with the non-linearity of reaction-diffusion chemical equations. While numerical methods can be used to solve these equations, a change in the input signals or the parameters of the medium requires one to redo the simulations. This makes it difficult to design modulation schemes and practically impossible to prove the optimality of a given transmission strategy. In this paper, we provide an analytical technique for modeling the non-linearity of chemical reaction equations based on the perturbation method. The perturbation method expresses the solution in terms of an infinite power series. An approximate solution...

#### Optimized midterm preventive maintenance outage scheduling of thermal generating units

, Article IEEE Transactions on Power Systems ; Vol. 27, issue. 3 , 2012 , p. 1354-1365 ; ISSN: 08858950 ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, M ; Parvania, M ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract

This paper addresses the midterm preventive maintenance outage scheduling problem of thermal generating units which is becoming increasingly important due to the aging of power generation fleet. In this context, a novel midterm preventive maintenance outage scheduler is proposed based on decision tree and mixed integer linear formation which explicitly considers the thermal units aging momentum in terms of failure rate. This allows the system operators to determine the thermal units' maintenance outage window based on the cost/benefit analysis of preventive maintenance tasks while optimizing the time interval between consecutive maintenance tasks. Additionally, the division of the year-long...

#### Optimal apogee burn time for low thrust spinning satellite in low altitude

, Article European Journal of Operational Research ; Volume 222, Issue 2 , 2012 , Pages 386-391 ; 03772217 (ISSN) ; Assadian, N ; Sharif University of Technology
2012

Abstract

In this study, the optimal burn time for low-thrust impulsive propulsion systems is investigated to raise the perigee altitude of a low-Earth orbit. The maneuver is done using spin-stabilized attitude control and impulsive thrusting system for a time interval centered about apogee point. On the one hand, the low value of the thrust level causes more burn time needed to accomplish the transfer. This, in turn, will cause more thrust loss due to the deviation between the thrust axis (spin axis) and the velocity vector of the satellite. On the other hand, for small thrust duration, the transfer needs more revolutions around the Earth and more travel in lower altitudes with dense atmosphere and...

Abstract

A single-step green method for effective reduction and functionalization of graphene oxide (GO) by glucose was developed. Then, efficacy of the glucose-reduced GO sheets in photothermal therapy of LNCaP prostate cancer cells was investigated in vitro. The GO suspension reduced and functionalized by glucose in the presence of Fe catalyst showed a biocompatible property with an excellent near-infrared (NIR) photothermal therapy efficiency better than hydrazine-reduced GO, single-wall and multi-wall carbon nanotube suspensions which even showed some levels of toxicities. For complete destruction of the cancer cells at some time intervals of NIR irradiation (e.g., 0.5 and 12 min with a power...
