Experimental Preparation of a Nanofibrous Membrane for Separation of Wastewater Contaminants

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Abolhassan (Author) ; Soltanieh, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Mousavi, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this project, cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) nanofibrous membranes in order to separate the contaminants of an industrial wastewater were prepared. Electrospinning process that is an effective method to fabricate nanofibers was used to prepare the membranes. Since various parameters affect this process and fibers morphology, optimization of these parameters is necessary for preparation of improved membranes. So the effect of parameters of solvent system, polymer concentration, applied voltage, distance between the tip of needle and collector, and rotational speed of collector on morphology and diameter of the nanofibers was investigated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and image...

Investigation of Textile Dyeing Wastewater Treatment by Vermifiltration and Troubleshooting and Modification of the Chemical/Biological Treatment Plant of the Ekbatan Textile Factory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Purehie, Omid (Author) ; Hashemian, Jamaloddin (Supervisor) ; kalhor, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Water is the essence of life. On average, a human being consumes about 2 liters of water every day and it accounts for about 70% of the weight of human body and this alone reflects the importance of water for continuation of life. The production process in textile and dyeing factories as increasingly growing industrial units consume large amounts of water and consequently produce large volumes of wastewater. Such industries face environmental regulations on one hand and are unable to compete with foreign products on the other since the imported counterparts are low-priced. Therefore, finding a cost-effective and efficient solution for treatment of waste water and troubleshooting and...

Design and Modification of Side Stream Filters of Blow-Down Water in Cooling Water System

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Beigi, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Mousavi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Sadr Hosseini, Hani (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The use of superhydrophobic surfaces is one the most promising methods for reducing the friction and increasing the flow rate in fluid transfer systems. Since in such systems the surface structure plays a key role, in the first part of this study, the performance of the hierarchical nanostructures is explored. These nanostructures are inspired by the superhydrophobic surface of the lotus leaf. The flow is considered between two walls with hierarchical nanostructures and simulate the system via the molecular dynamics (MD) method. The size of the nanostructures and the distance between them have been studied to find whether a design with maximum flow rate exists. The nanostructures have two...

    Abstract
Water-quality modeling and prediction is a complicated task because of inherent randomness and uncertainties associated with various processes and variables throughout the stream environment and the lack of appropriate data. Hence, the results of mathematical models are always approximate, lying within an uncertainty. This paper describes and demonstrates the application of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's water-quality model, QUAL2E-UNCAS, to the Zayandeh-Rood River in Iran. First-order reliability analysis is used to examine the variability of predicted water-quality parameters of total dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen, and biochemical oxygen demand. This analysis also...
