Policy and societal relevance of traffic noise models in urban zones

    , Article International Journal of Human Capital in Urban Management ; Volume 7, Issue 2 , 2022 , Pages 283-296 ; 24764698 (ISSN) Ahmadi Dehrashid, S. S ; Jafari, H. R ; Amjadi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Road traffic noise is a matter of challenge for both people and policymakers. For instance, the price of lands/houses which are close to road traffic noise is reduced. The key objective of this study is to propose a conceptual model to illustrate details of a road traffic noise model along with its policy and societal relevance. The second objective is to consider the honking of horns in such a conceptual model, as honking is a remarkable traffic noise factor, however, it has been neglected in some noise abatement policies. METHODS: By the use of previously proposed traffic noise models, some attempts were made to figure out how the models were applicable in...

Hierarchal assessment of noise pollution in urban areas - A case study

    Abstract
Noise pollution in urban areas has many harmful effects on the citizens. There are varieties of noise generation sources of which the traffic noise could be a major source. The point which is perhaps less noticed is that sound level is not the only parameter to indicate the extent and intensity of noise pollution. Situation of urban land uses, distribution of population centers and types of passages can deeply affect the concern on this environmental issue but not with a similar ratio. This article presents an overlaying technique to define noise prone areas using all different factors involved. A case study was carried out in the District 14 of Tehran Metropolitan City where there are busy...

A compact model for predicting road traffic noise

    , Article Iranian Journal of Environmental Health Science and Engineering ; Volume 6, Issue 3 , 2009 , Pages 181-186 ; 17351979 (ISSN) Golmohammadi, R ; Abbaspour, M ; Nassiri, P ; Mahjub, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Noise is one of the most important sources of pollution in the metropolitan areas. The recognition of road traffic noise as one of the main sources of environmental pollution has led to develop models that enable us to predict noise level from fundamental variables. Traffic noise prediction models are required as aids in the design of roads and sometimes in the assessment of existing, or envisaged changes in, traffic noise conditions. The purpose of this study was to design a prediction road traffic noise model from traffic variables and conditions of transportation in Iran. This paper is the result of a research conducted in the city of Hamadan with the ultimate objective of setting up a...
