    Optimal ATC allocation in power systems

    Abstract
    When there are transmission service requests for a specific sink/source pair in a transmission system, the ISO must allocate the ATC of that pair to the requests. Since the requests could have different types, tariffs and time frame, the allocation must be accomplished in a sound and fair manner that considers various aspects of the requests. This paper proposes an approach to allocate the ATC to transmission service requests in both operating and planning horizons. The proposed method considers types and tariffs of requests in a nonlinear optimization which maximizes the expected net revenue of ATC allocation.     Geometrical optimization of parallel infinitely variable transmission to decrease vehicle fuel consumption

    Abstract
    One solution to reduce fuel consumption (FC) of vehicles is to use infinitely variable transmission (IVT) as the power train. However, inappropriate design of IVT leads to an inadequate decrease in the vehicle FC. Therefore, in order to reach a maximum fuel economy, an optimization on the power train proves to be necessary. The present article aims to optimize IVT to decrease the vehicle FC in a driving cycle. The results have revealed that the FC of the vehicle equipped with the optimized IVT is approximately 7% and 4.7% compared to the cases of using the optimized six-speed and nine-speed manual transmissions, respectively

    Abstract
    A new method for the analysis of electron transmission property in single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) using Green's function is presented in this paper for the first time. Using the proposed method, a new relation for the transmission function through a deformed SWCNT is obtained, which depends on the energy variations and the coupling matrices related to the mechanical deformations applied to the structure of CNT. The obtained new relation is explained by the presented results in the literature  

    A comprehensive study on the microstructure of high strength low alloy pipeline welds

    Abstract
    The microstructural characteristic of HSLA welds containing different amounts of titanium were evaluated carefully. It was observed that the microstructure of welds consisted of ferrite with mixed morphologies, and small amounts of pearlite and martensite-austenite micro-constituents. Because of insufficient time for diffusion of carbon, formation of pearlite lamellae could not be completed in the weld region. Martensite was formed from carbon enrichment of austenite during nucleation and growth of acicular ferrite and bainitic ferrite.     Abstract
    In this paper, a robust sliding mode control for a flexible transmission system is presented. This system has two very oscillatory vibration modes subject to large load variation which makes the control of it be difficult. A set of design specification in time domain is to be met by a single controller on each of the three main plant models. Furthermore the tracking problem in the presence of disturbance and load variation is investigated. Results show good performance of the proposed controller. In this approach, in order to estimate the hidden states of the flexible transmission system, an observer based on sliding mode control is used. © 2004 IEEE

    This paper presents a practical scheme that can be used for allocating the transmission loss to generators and loads. In this scheme first the share of a generator or load on the current through a branch is determined using Z-bus modified matrix.     In this study, a new antibacklash gear mechanism design comprising three pinions and a rack is introduced. This mechanism offers several advantages compared to conventional antibacklash mechanisms, such as lower transmission error as well as lower required preload.     Deregulation in power systems creates new uncertainties and escalates the previous ones. The presence of these uncertainties causes the transmission network to remain a monopoly and the private investors not to be interested in investing in new transmission lines. This article presents a new merchant-based transmission network expansion planning algorithm from the viewpoint of private investors. The point estimation method is used to handle the uncertainties, and the genetic algorithm is used as the optimization tool.
