Exploring the Association between the Effective Parameters on Transportation and the Process of Urban Development: Case Study Shiraz City

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Barati, Hojjat (Author) ; Shafahi, Yousef (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The process of urbanization and the dramatic increase in residential population lead to significant development in urban area, especially in metropolitan areas, and cause unpredicted challenges for transportation planning and the mobility of dwellers and products. One of the most heated discussions in urban transportation planning during the last decades is devoted to the nexus among urban spatial development, sprawl and poly-centricity phenomena, and urban transportation system parameters. Definitely, the drivers' behaviors have also altered rapidly during this process. Besides, the complicity of the nature of transportation models for predicting the travel demand of system is inevitable....

Measurement of Radionuclides Transport Parameters for Soil Samples from Naeen Radioactive Waste Disposal Site by Column Experiment Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Amini, Marzieh (Author) ; Samadfam, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The Iranian Nuclear waste management Company is responsible for the safe disposal of the low-level radioactive waste resulting from the various processes of nuclear fuel cycle and other radioactive-related activities. The safety assessment of waste disposal requires the measurement of transport parameters of radioactive nuclides in the soil around the disposal site. In this project, the transport parameters of cobalt nucleus in the Naeein disposal soil were measured using two static (batch) and dynamic (column experiment) methods. In the static method, the distribution coefficient was determined by performing batch adsorption experiments, and then the retardation factor for the soil disposal...

Effect of Experimental Parameters on Transport of Radionuclides in Soil Column of Naeen Repository

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Esmaeili Boosajin, Maliheh (Author) ; Samadfam, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In Iran, the Iranian Nuclear Waste Management Company (INWMC) is responsible for safe disposal of low-level radioactive waste which results from different processes of nuclear fuel cycle and other radioactive-related activities. The safety assessment program is essential to ensure safe isolation of radioactive waste from the biosphere for long periods of time. Usually, the ground water scenario is considered as the main scenario of radionuclides migration from repository to the biological environment. Thus, it is required to measure the transport parameters of radionuclides in the porous media (soil) around the disposal site. In this research, laboratory scale columns, filled with Nain...

Determination of Concentration Profile in a Transport Column by Gamma Spectroscopy combined with Neural Network Technique

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Dara, Mojtaba (Author) ; Samadfam, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Safety assessment of the final disposal of radioactive waste is crucial to ensure the waste isolation from the biosphere for long periods of time. There are various scenarios for the radionuclide transport from the disposal site to the environment, among which the ground water scenario is considered as the main scenario of the radionuclides migration. In this scenario, the transport parameters of the radionuclides are very important in the safety assessment of the final disposal of radioactive wastes. These parameters are determined using either dynamic or static methods, which usually the dynamic method leads to more realistic results. In the dynamic method, one of the two approaches of...

Modeling of microfluidic microbial fuel cells using quantitative bacterial transport parameters

    , Article Journal of Power Sources ; Volume 342 , 2017 , Pages 1017-1031 ; 03787753 (ISSN) Mardanpour, M. M ; Yaghmaei, S ; Kalantar, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The objective of present study is to analyze the dynamic modeling of bioelectrochemical processes and improvement of the performance of previous models using quantitative data of bacterial transport parameters. The main deficiency of previous MFC models concerning spatial distribution of biocatalysts is an assumption of initial distribution of attached/suspended bacteria on electrode or in anolyte bulk which is the foundation for biofilm formation. In order to modify this imperfection, the quantification of chemotactic motility to understand the mechanisms of the suspended microorganisms’ distribution in anolyte and/or their attachment to anode surface to extend the biofilm is implemented...

A new approach for solution of time dependent neutron transport equation based on nodal discretization using MCNPX code with feedback

    , Article Annals of Nuclear Energy ; Volume 133 , 2019 , Pages 519-526 ; 03064549 (ISSN) Ghaderi Mazaher, M ; Salehi, A. A ; Vosoughi, N ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper proposes a new method for solving the time-dependent neutron transport equation based on nodal discretization using the MCNPX code. Most valid nodal codes are based on the diffusion theory with differences in approximating the leakage term until now. However, the Monte Carlo (MC) method is able to estimate transport parameters without approximations usual in diffusion method. Therefore, improving the nodal approach via the MC techniques can substantially reduce the errors caused by diffusion approximations. In the proposed method, the reactor core is divided into nodes of arbitrary dimensions, and all terms of the transport equation e.g. interaction rates and leakage ratio are...
