    Abstract
Background: Measuring routine childhood vaccination is crucial to inform global vaccine policies and programme implementation, and to track progress towards targets set by the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP) and Immunization Agenda 2030. Robust estimates of routine vaccine coverage are needed to identify past successes and persistent vulnerabilities. Drawing from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2020, Release 1, we did a systematic analysis of global, regional, and national vaccine coverage trends using a statistical framework, by vaccine and over time. Methods: For this analysis we collated 55 326 country-specific, cohort-specific, year-specific,...

Microfluidic-based droplets for advanced regenerative medicine: current challenges and future trends

    Abstract
Microfluidics is a promising approach for the facile and large-scale fabrication of monodispersed droplets for various applications in biomedicine. This technology has demonstrated great potential to address the limitations of regenerative medicine. Microfluidics provides safe, accurate, reliable, and cost-effective methods for encapsulating different stem cells, gametes, biomaterials, biomolecules, reagents, genes, and nanoparticles inside picoliter-sized droplets or droplet-derived microgels for different applications. Moreover, microenvironments made using such droplets can mimic niches of stem cells for cell therapy purposes, simulate native extracellular matrix (ECM) for tissue...

Interaction of lake-groundwater levels using cross-correlation analysis: A case study of Lake Urmia Basin, Iran

    , Article Science of the Total Environment ; 2020 , Volume 729 Javadzadeh, H ; Ataie Ashtiani, B ; Hosseini, S. M ; Simmons, C. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2020
    Abstract
Lake Urmia (LU) is the second largest hypersaline lake in the world. Lake Urmia's water level has dropped drastically from 1277.85 m to 1270.08 m a.s.l (equal to 7.77 m) during the last 20 years, equivalent to a loss of 70% of the lake area. The likelihood of lake-groundwater connection on the basin-scale is uncertain and understudied because of lack of basic data and precise information required for physically-based modeling. In this study, cross-correlation analysis is applied on a various time-frames of water level of the lake and groundwater levels (2001–2018) recorded in 797 observation wells across 17 adjacent aquifers. This provides insightful information on the lake-groundwater...

Seasonal trends in the composition and sources of PM2.5 and carbonaceous aerosol in Tehran, Iran

    , Article Environmental Pollution ; Volume 239 , 2018 , Pages 69-81 ; 02697491 (ISSN) Arhami, M ; Zare Shahne, M ; Hosseini, V ; Roufigar Haghighat, N ; Lai, A. M ; Schauer, J. J ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2018
    Abstract
Currently PM2.5 is a major air pollution concern in Tehran, Iran due to frequent high levels and possible adverse impacts. In this study, which is the first of its kind to take place in Tehran, composition and sources of PM2.5 and carbonaceous aerosol were determined, and their seasonal trends were studied. In this regard, fine PM samples were collected every six days at a residential station for one year and the chemical constituents including organic marker species, metals, and ions were analyzed by chemical analysis. The source apportionment was performed using organic molecular marker-based CMB receptor modeling. Carbonaceous compounds were the major contributors to fine particulate mass...

Recent advancements, trends, fundamental challenges and opportunities in spray deposited cellulose nanofibril films for packaging applications

    , Article Science of the Total Environment ; Volume 836 , 2022 ; 00489697 (ISSN) Nadeem, H ; Athar, M ; Dehghani, M ; Garnier, G ; Batchelor, W ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2022
    Abstract
Plastic packaging is causing a serious environmental concern owing to its difficulty in degrading and micro-particulates' emissions. Developing biodegradable films has gained research attention to overcome ecological and health issues associated with plastic based packaging. One alternative substitute for petroleum-based plastic is nanocellulose based films, having distinguishing characteristics such as biodegradability, renewability, and non-toxicity. Nanocellulose is classified into three major types, i.e., cellulose nanofibril, cellulose nanocrystals, and bacterial nanocellulose. However, the scope of this review is limited to cellulose nanofibril (CNF) because this is the only one of...

Opposite trends of GAS6 and GAS6-AS expressions in breast cancer tissues

    , Article Experimental and Molecular Pathology ; Volume 118 , 2021 ; 00144800 (ISSN) Lavasani, A ; Hussen, B. M ; Taheri, F ; Sattari, A ; Yousefi, H ; Omrani, M. D ; Nazer, N ; Ghafouri Fard, S ; Taheri, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Growth arrest-specific gene 6 (GAS6) is a growth factor-like cytokine whose function is related with vitamin K. This protein interacts with receptor tyrosine kinase proteins such as Tyro3, Axl, and TAM Receptor family, therefore affecting the tumorigenic processes via different mechanisms. GAS6-antisense 1 (GAS6-AS1) is a long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) that is transcribed from a genomic regions nearby GAS6. This lncRNA is also implicated in the pathobiology of cancer. We intended to judge the role of GAS6 and GAS6-AS1 in the pathogenesis of breast cancer through appraisal of their expression levels in breast cancer tissues and their paired neighboring non-cancerous samples. Expression of...
