    Pt and Pd as catalyst deposited by hydrogen reduction of metal salts on WO3 films for gasochromic application

    Abstract
    In this study, tungsten oxide films were deposited by pulsed-laser deposition (PLD) technique. The as-deposited films were annealed at 250 °C in air for 1 h. The surface morphology, microstructure, crystalline phase, and chemical composition of the films were characterized by SEM, XRD and XPS techniques. Pt nanoparticles were deposited onto the tungsten oxide films through a two-step process. First of all, a layer of PtCl2 was coated on the WO3 surface by drop-drying the PtCl2 solution onto the WO3 surface at 60 °C.     Abstract
    In this study WO x films were deposited by laser ablation of ultra-pure (5N) tungsten trioxide targets onto SiO2 or silicon substrates at 250°C temperature, 100 mTorr oxygen partial pressure and 1×10-5 Torr vacuum. Surface chemical states and compositions of the deposits were determined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results showed that deposits in oxygen partial pressure contain W6+ with x ∼ 3.1, while vacuum-deposited films have different W states with various percentage distributions as W4+>W5+>W 6+>W0, and x ∼ 1.     Abstract
    In this investigation, the effect of gold nanocrystals on the electrochromical properties of sol-gel Au doped WO3 thin films has been studied. The Au-WO3 thin films were dip-coated on both glass and indium tin oxide coated conducting glass substrates with various gold concentrations of 0, 3.2 and 6.4 mol%. Optical properties of the samples were studied by UV-visible spectrophotometry in a range of 300-1100 nm. The optical density spectra of the films showed the formation of gold nanoparticles in the films. The optical bandgap energy of Au-WO3 films decreased with increasing the Au concentration.     Tungsten oxide thin films (deposited by thermal evaporation or sol gel method) were used for photocatalytic reduction of graphene oxide (GO) platelets (synthesized through a chemical exfoliation method) on surface of the films under UV or visible light of the environment, in the absence of any aqueous ambient at room temperature.     In this study, tungsten oxide films were synthesized by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method. The as-deposited films were annealed at a temperature of 250 and 350°C in air for 1 h. The surface morphology, microstructure, crystalline phase and chemical composition of the as-prepared and annealed films were characterized by SEM, XRD and XPS techniques, respectively. Deposition of Pd nanoparticles onto the tungsten oxide surface was performed by hydrogen reduction of a drop-drying PdCl 2 solution onto a WO 3 surface at 60°C.     Abstract
    Graphene-tungsten oxide composite thin films with sheetlike surface morphology were fabricated and applied in photoinactivation of viruses under visible light irradiation. Using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, it was found that the chemically exfoliated graphene oxide sheets incorporated in the tungsten oxide film reduced through a visible light photocatalytic reduction. In addition, annealing the films at 450 °C in air resulted in formation of W-C and W-O-C bonds to obtain graphene-tungsten oxide composite films.
