    Abstract
In order to evaluate the long-term viability, the iron content stability, and the labeling efficiency of mammalian cells using magnetic cell labeling; dextran-coated ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide (USPIOs) nanoparticles with plain surfaces having a hydrodynamic size of 25 nm were used for this study. Tests were carried out in four groups each containing 5 flasks of 5.5 × 10 6 AD-293 embryonic kidney cells. The cell lines were incubated for 24 h using four different iron concentrations with and without protamine sulfate (Pro), washed with phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) and centrifuged three times to remove the unbounded USPIOs. Cell viability was also verified using USPIOs. There...

    Abstract
Solid phase extraction coupled with spectrophotometric detection was applied to trace amounts of Pantoprazole (PP) drug using Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide coated-iron oxide magnetite nanoparticles CTAB@Fe3O4 MNPs. After characterization of the prepared nano-adsorbents, experimental parameters affecting the extraction efficiency of the developed method were optimized. The results obtained showed that this proposed approach is applicable in concentrations ranging from 0.1 to 1.5 μg/ml (R2 = 0.9958) indicating that follows Beer's-Lambert law. The limit of detection and the limit of quantification calculated to be 0.014 and 0.04 μg/ml, respectively. The repeatability of the proposed method was...

Extraction of fluoxetine from aquatic and urine samples using sodium dodecyl sulfate-coated iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles followed by spectrofluorimetric determination

    , Article Analytica Chimica Acta ; Volume 692, Issue 1-2 , 2011 , Pages 80-84 ; 00032670 (ISSN) Bagheri, H ; Zandi, O ; Aghakhani, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A new method based on the combination of magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) and spectrofluorimetric determination was developed for isolation and preconcentration of fluoxetine form aquatic and biological samples using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) as a sorbent. The unique properties of Fe3O4 NPs including high surface area and strong magnetism were utilized effectively in the MSPE process. Effect of different parameters influencing the extraction efficiency of fluoxetine including the amount of Fe3O4 and SDS, pH value, sample volume, extraction time, desorption solvent and time were optimized. Under optimized condition, the method was successfully applied...

In situ forming interpenetrating hydrogels of hyaluronic acid hybridized with iron oxide nanoparticles

    , Article Biomaterials Science ; Volume 3, Issue 11 , Aug , 2015 , Pages 1466-1474 ; 20474830 (ISSN) Kheirabadi, M ; Shi, L ; Bagheri, R ; Kabiri, K ; Hilborn, J ; Ossipov, D. A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Four derivatives of hyaluronic acid (HA) bearing thiol (HA-SH), hydrazide (HA-hy), 2-dithiopyridyl (HA-SSPy), and aldehyde groups (HA-al) respectively were synthesized. Thiol and 2-dithiopyridyl as well as hydrazide and aldehyde make up two chemically orthogonal pairs of chemo-selective functionalities that allow in situ formation of interpenetrating (IPN) disulfide and hydrazone networks simultaneously upon the mixing of the above derivatives at once. The formation of IPN was demonstrated by comparing it with the formulations of the same total HA concentration but lacking one of the reactive components. The hydrogel composed of all four components was characterized by a larger elastic...

Inorganic nanomaterials for chemo/photothermal therapy: a promising horizon on effective cancer treatment

    , Article Biophysical Reviews ; Volume 11, Issue 3 , 2019 , Pages 335-352 ; 18672450 (ISSN) Khafaji, M ; Zamani, M ; Golizadeh, M ; Bavi, O ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
During the last few decades, nanotechnology has established many essential applications in the biomedical field and in particular for cancer therapy. Not only can nanodelivery systems address the shortcomings of conventional chemotherapy such as limited stability, non-specific biodistribution and targeting, poor water solubility, low therapeutic indices, and severe toxic side effects, but some of them can also provide simultaneous combination of therapies and diagnostics. Among the various therapies, the combination of chemo- and photothermal therapy (CT-PTT) has demonstrated synergistic therapeutic efficacies with minimal side effects in several preclinical studies. In this regard,...

Ag-doped magnetic metal organic framework as a novel nanostructured material for highly efficient antibacterial activity

    Academic Press Inc  2020
    Abstract
In the last decades, numerous attempts have been made to prevent microbial pollution spreading, using antibacterial agents. Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) belongs to a subgroup of metal organic frameworks (MOFs) merits of attention due to the zinc ion clusters and its effective antibacterial activity. In this work, Ag-doped magnetic microporous γ-Fe2O3@SiO2@ZIF-8-Ag (FSZ-Ag) was successfully synthesized by a facile methodology in room temperature and used as an antibacterial agent against the growth of the Gram-negative Escherichia coli and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Several characterization methods were applied to analyze the properties of the materials, and the...

    Abstract
Porphyrins are organic compounds that continue to attract much theoretical interest, and have been called the “pigments of life”. They have a wide role in photodynamic and sonodynamic therapy, along with uses in magnetic resonance, fluorescence and photoacoustic imaging. There is a vast range of porphyrins that have been isolated or designed, but few of them have real clinical applications. Due to the hydrophobic properties of porphyrins, and their tendency to aggregate by stacking of the planar molecules they are difficult to work with in aqueous media. Therefore encapsulating them in nanoparticles (NPs) or attachment to various delivery vehicles have been used to improve delivery...
