    Abstract
Ultrasound irradiation in presence of 20% ZnBr2 effectively promotes regio-and stereo-selective cycloaddition reaction of azomethine ylide with a series of (E)-3-benzylideneindolin-2-ones to afford 3,3′-dispiropyrrolidine bisoxindole derivatives in excellent yields in methanol at room temperature. The factors affecting the cycloaddition reaction, for example solvent, catalyst, ultrasonic irradiation, are examined in detail to find the mildest conditions and highest reaction yields. The structure and stereochemistry of cycloadducts were determined by spectroscopic data and confirmed by X-ray crystallographic analysis. © ARKAT USA, Inc

Study the effect of ultrasonic irradiation and surfactant/fe ions weight ratio on morphology and particle size of magnetite nanoparticles synthesised by co-precipitation for medical application

    , Article World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology ; Volume 64 , 2010 , Pages 457-460 ; 2010376X (ISSN) Azimipour Meibod, S. S ; Pourafshary, P ; Madaah Hosseini, H. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A biocompatible ferrofluid have been prepared by coprecipitation of FeCl 2.4H 2O and FeCl 3.6H 2O under ultrasonic irradiation and with NaOH as alkaline agent. Cystein was also used as capping agent in the solution. Magnetic properties of the produced ferrofluid were then determined by VSM test and magnetite nanoparticles were characterized by XRD and TEM techniques. The effect of surfactant to Fe ion weight ratio was also studied during this project by using two different amount of Dextran. Results showed the presence of a biocompatible superparamagnetic ferrofluid including magnetite nanoparticles with particle size ranging under 20 nm. The increase in the surfactant content results in the...

Rapid growth of hydroxyapatite nanoparticles using ultrasonic irradiation

    , Article Ultrasonics Sonochemistry ; Volume 17, Issue 5 , Jun , 2010 , Pages 853-856 ; 13504177 (ISSN) Rouhani, P ; Taghavinia, N ; Rouhani, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A rapid, environmental friendly and low-cost method to prepare hydroxyapatite nanoparticles is proposed. In this method, hydroxyapatite is produced in a sonicated pseudo-body solution. The sonication time was found effective in the formation of the crystalline phase of nanoparticles. In our experimental condition, 15 min sonication resulted in the most pure hydroxyapatite phase. Also it was shown that growth temperature is a crucial factor and hydroxyapatite crystallizes only at 37 °C. The particles formed by sonication were generally smaller and more spherical than those obtained without sonication. Sonication increased the hydroxyapatite crystal growth rate up to 5.5 times compared to...

Effect of ultrasonic irradiation treatment on rheological behaviour of extra heavy crude oil: A solution method for transportation improvement

    Abstract
The highly viscous property of heavy oil often causes problems in its transportation in pipelines. Mixing heavy oil with light oil as well as ultrasound treatment are viable solutions to this problem. In this study, extra heavy crude oil samples were first diluted with 0, 0.05, 0.1, and 0.15 mL/mL (0, 5, 10, and 15 vol%) of a light crude oil; then the mixture was irradiated by ultrasonic waves for 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 min; finally the viscous shear functions of all mixtures was measured at different values of shear rate at different temperature levels. The results revealed that the minimum viscosity of the diluted extra heavy crude oil samples was obtained at 10 min of ultrasonic...

    Abstract
Magnetite nanoparticles (mean particle size ranging from 10 to 20 nm) were prepared by a biomoleculeassisted solution-phase approach under ultrasonic irradiation. Cysteine was used as the capping agent in the solution. The results show that cysteine could be an efficient biocapping agent in producing Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The crystal structure and magnetic properties of the nanoparticles were characterized by XRD and VSM techniques, respectively. FT-IR was used to investigate the presence of cysteine on the nanoparticles surface. The influence of pH value of the solution on the size distribution and hydrodynamic size of nanoparticles were studied by TEM and DLS methods, respectively. The MTT...

The effect of multiwalled carbon nanotubes and activated carbon on the morphology and photocatalytic activity of TiO2/C hybrid materials

    , Article Catalysis Science and Technology ; Volume 1, Issue 2 , 2011 , Pages 279-284 ; 20444753 (ISSN) Zarezade, M ; Ghasemi, S ; Gholami, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
TiO2 nanoparticles supported on activated carbon (AC) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were prepared by the sol-gel method using ultrasonic irradiation. All the prepared samples were calcined at different temperatures and characterized by X-ray diffraction, nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The effects of size and type of carbon on the morphology and photocatalytic activity of the resulting hybrid materials were investigated. The results showed that a decrease in the size of the carbon led to a decrease in size of TiO2 nanoparticles. Both AC and MWCNTs retarded the...

Applying ultrasonic fields to separate water contained in medium-gravity crude oil emulsions and determining crude oil adhesion coefficients

    Abstract
Separating produced water is a key part of production processing for most crude oils. It is required for quality reasons, and to avoid unnecessary transportation costs and prevent pipework corrosion rates caused by soluble salts present in the water. A complicating factor is that water is often present in crude oil in the form of emulsions. Experiments were performed to evaluate the performance of ultrasonic fields in demulsifying crude oil emulsions using novel pipe-form equipment. A horn-type piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer with a frequency of 20 kHz and power ranging from 80 W to 1000 W was used for experimental purposes. The influences of the intensity of ultrasonic fields,...
