Development of Optimization Algorithm for Low Speed UAVs Propellers

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Miraghaei Jafari, Zahra Sadat (Author) ; Mazaheri, Karim (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Aerodynamic shape optimization has been always of great importance in aerospace design. Recent advancements in computational algorithms and hardware, has made it feasible to have advanced optimization as a standard part of desing procedure. Here we have promoted aerodynamic optimization of air propeller.
Propeller optimization process requires a propeller performance analysis program and an efficient optimization algorithm. A vortex lattice model is used for the propeller performance analysis and a computer program is developed based on it. Experiment and litritures are used for validation of VLM code. In order to optimize the propeller peformance, propeller efficiency is applied as cost...

Aerodynamic Optimization of Wing Shape of an Ornithopter Using Unsteady Vortex Lattice Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Teymouri Bakharzi, Aiub (Author) ; Mazaheri, Karim (Supervisor)
    Abstract
At this project, at first step has been tried to solve the flow over a plate using unsteady vortex lattice method that reached to this purpose considering reference [5] and using available code at this book. And due to existent limitations of above code, has been tried to promote it to more complex three-dimensional modes. And at next step, the code has been approved using Wagner and Theodorsen theoretical methods and then the results validated with others results. Finally, after confidence of numerical results of the written code, has been studied the effect of design parameters on the Ornithopter aerodynamics parameters to can reach to final purpose that is optimum aerodynamic shape for...

    Abstract
In this paper, the aeroelastic analysis of a large scale wind turbine rotor is performed with the aim of studying transient performance of turbine in extreme wind conditions, such as wind gusts and rapid yaw changes. The effect of the presence and/or lack of blade pitch control system on output power, rotor thrust, and blade deformation in sudden change of wind speed are investigated. The NREL 5 MW offshore wind turbine is used as the baseline case. In this regard, the modal approach is implemented for modeling the flexible blade structure with tension, bending and torsion degrees of freedom. The unsteady vortex lattice method is employed to obtain the aerodynamic loads. Moreover, the...
