A novel integrated framework to evaluate greenhouse energy demand and crop yield production

    , Article Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews ; Volume 96 , 2018 , Pages 487-501 ; 13640321 (ISSN) Golzar, F ; Heeren, N ; Hellweg, S ; Roshandel, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Greenhouses are complex systems that require considerable amounts of energy. In order to optimize their performance, it is necessary to reduce the amount of energy per unit of crop produced. This requires a combined assessment of greenhouse energy balance and crop growth, as well as their interaction. In this work, more than 30 existing greenhouse models are reviewed and different algorithms are combined to propose an integrated energy-yield model. The physical model of greenhouse energy demand is based on the dynamic energy and mass balance while yield production is based on a physiological crop model. The integrated model is validated with observed energy demand and crop yield datasets...

Economic and environmental assessment of a solar-assisted ground source heat pump system in a heating-dominated climate

    , Article International Journal of Environmental Science and Technology ; 2018 , Pages 1-8 ; 17351472 (ISSN) Biglarian, H ; Saidi, M. H ; Abbaspour, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In recent years, increasing attention has been paid to the use of renewable energy sources in building sector. The ground source heat pumps are a promising alternative for heating and cooling applications. Despite the high coefficients of performance and significant environmental benefits, their performance may deteriorate over the long-term operation if the annual ground loads are not well balanced. An appropriate solution is the use of hybrid ground source heat pump system through which some portion of the thermal loads can be offset by supplemental components. The aim of this study is to assess the feasibility of a solar-assisted ground source heat pump system for heating a detached house...

A MILP model for phase identification in LV distribution feeders using smart meters data

    , Article 2019 Smart Gird Conference, SGC 2019, 18 December 2019 through 19 December 2019 ; 2019 ; 9781728158945 (ISBN) Akhijahani, A. H ; Hojjatinejad, S ; Safdarian, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Nowadays, with the increasing use of renewable energies in low voltage (LV) feeders, phase balancing research areas are of great importance. However, the lack of information about the hosting phase of customers and renewable sources is the missing link in such researches. To address this barrier, this paper proposes a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) method to identify the hosting phase of customers as well as renewable energies, such as photovoltaic (PV) panels. The model considers potential error in the input data. To overcome the complexity caused by data error, the input data in several time intervals are taken into account by the model. The model solves the phase identification...

A review on the water-energy nexus for drinking water production from humid air

    , Article Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews ; Volume 120 , 2020 Salehi, A. A ; Ghannadi Maragheh, M ; Torab Mostaedi, M ; Torkaman, R ; Asadollahzadeh, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The Supply of sustainable freshwater has turned into a fundamental problem in numerous countries. The increment in population, the industrialization of the world, and variation in global warming temperatures lead to an increase in droughts, storms, and floods around the world. Therefore, the problems of water scarcity appear worldwide. Contrary to popular belief, the largest reserves of water are available in the air. Accordingly, several technologies have been developed for the production of drinking water from humid air in the research works. But, the critical problem is the high energy consumption in this equipment. Therefore, the issues of water-energy nexus are the particular subject in...
