    Abstract
Green and simple synthesis strategies have gained tremendous popularity for the production of anisotropically-shaped noble metallic nanoparticles. The long-term stability of the produced particles, the short timescale of the target reaction(s), as well as the use of non-toxic chemicals, are pivotal features of a useful green procedure. Herein we describe a simple and convenient wet-chemical approach to synthesize stable, non-toxic and water-soluble small gold nanotriangles (GNTs) and gold nanospheres (GNSs) in one step at room temperature, using Tween 20 and Tween 80, respectively. A high level of purity and monodispersity was obtained for the GNTs, in addition to an excellent colloidal...

    Abstract
Tungsten oxide nanoparticles were fabricated by a pulsed laser ablation method in deionized water using the first harmonic of a Nd:YAG laser (λ = 1064 nm) at three different laser pulse energies (E1 = 160, E2 = 370 and E3 = 500 mJ/pulse), respectively. The aim is to investigate the effect of laser pulse energy on the size distribution and gasochromic property of colloidal nanoparticles. The products were characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The results indicated that WO 3 nanoparticles were formed. After ablation, a 0.2 g/l PdCl 2 solution was added to activate the solution against...

    , Article Applied Physics A: Materials Science and Processing ; Volume 107, Issue 2 , May , 2012 , Pages 497-502 ; 09478396 (ISSN) Mohammadi, M. R ; Zarghami, V ; Fray, D. J ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
The morphological manipulation, structural characterization, and optical properties of different CdSe nanocrystals were reported. Several different CdSe nanostructures, including nanowires, tetrapod crystals, and nanoparticles were grown by varying the volume ratio of triethylenetetraamine (TETA) and water (WA) in their mixed solution. By manipulating the growth driving force (i.e., the degree of supersaturation) and kinetics of the process (i.e., growth rate), the morphology and crystal structure of CdSe nanocrystals can be tailored. Growth driving force changed their morphology from nanowires to tetrapod structures and from the latter structure to nanoparticles. Moreover, kinetics of the...

    Abstract
Catalysts as the dynamo of chemical reactions along with solvents play paramount roles in organic transformations in long-lasting modes. Thus, developing effective and biobased catalysts in nontoxic solvents is highly in demand. In this report, carbon quantum dots (CQDs) functionalized with-lysine (Lys-CQDs) were generated from entirely nature-derived materials; they were demonstrated to be a promising catalyst for C-N bond formation in choline chloride urea (ChCl/U), a natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES). Among a number of synthesized CQDs, Lys-CQD turned out to be a powerful catalyst in the model reaction with aniline to afford phenyl urea. This type of transformation is important...

    Abstract
Dinuclear cis-dioxomolybdenum(VI) complex [{MoO 2(Bz 2Benzenediyldtc)} 2] coordinated by a quadradentate dithiocarbamate (Bz 2Benzenediyldtc 2- = 1,4-benzenediylbis(benzyldithiocarbamate)(2-)) has been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, 13C NMR, IR and UV-vis spectroscopy. The kinetics of the oxygen atom transfer between [{MoO 2(Bz 2Benzenediyldtc)} 2] and PPh 3 was studied spectrophotometrically in CH 2Cl 2 medium at 520 nm and four different temperatures, 288, 293, 298 and 303 K, respectively. The reaction follows second order kinetics with the rate constant k = 0.163(2) M -1 S -1 and its increasingly strong absorption at 520 nm clearly indicate the formation of a μ-oxo...

    Abstract
Different grades of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were dispersed in poly(tetramethylene ether glycol) (PTMEG) without any solvent in the presence of a block copolymer dispersing agent by ultrasonication at a temperature well above the melting point of the PTMEG. The state of CNT dispersion at different length scales was evaluated by using optical microscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, rheological measurements, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis and sedimentation tests. Optical microscopy can be used to characterize the state of dispersion and CNT network formation on a micrometer scale, whereas UV-Vis provides useful information about the dispersion of individual CNTs at...

    Abstract
Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) are being increasingly used in various biomedical applications such as hyperthermia, cell and protein separation, enhancing resolution of magnetic resonance imaging, and drug delivery. However, the toxicity data for SPION are limited. In this study, uncoated and single polyvinyl alcohol coated SPION with high chemical reactivity (due to the bigger surface area) were synthesized using a coprecipitation method. Cytotoxicity of these magnetic nanoparticles and their ability to cause arrest in cell life-cycles was investigated. Interaction of these nanoparticles with adhesive mouse fibroblast cell line (L929) was probed using MTT assay. High...
