Experimental Investigation of Heat Transfer Coefficient of Porous Materials in Various Air Pressures

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Gholami, Soroush (Author) ; Nouri Broujerdi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Heat transfer in porous media has recently become an important subject in mechanical engineering. Heat transfer in porous media is central in many applications involving industrial devices (chemical engineering, heat exchangers, nuclear reactor, etc...) as well as complex geological formations (in situ combustion and pyrolysis, geothermal sites, etc...). On track to achieve heat transfer methods and heat transfer coefficients of porous materials, this investigation describes the design process of fabrication and experimental analysis of calculation the conduction heat transfer coefficient of the uniform porous materials. We report on thermal conductivity measurements performed on uniform...

Functional Design of a Coating System for the Telescope Mirrors, A Recognition to Telescope of Iranian National Observatory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mahdizadeh, Sajjad (Author) ; Moshfegh, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Khosroshahi, Habib (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Functional design of coating system for the primary mirror of the Iranian National Observatory (INO) is done. This telescope has a 3.4 m primary mirror in diameter, made of Zerodur from Schott. Although similar coating systems are in use since years ago, this is the first attempt to design a system for such a large surface case in Iran. Systematic approach led us first to clarify and identifying the design requirements. Lower limit of 80% for reflectance on all wavelength range from 325-1000 nm, thickness of 100 nm with un-uniformity of 5 nm, adhesion enough to pass the selotape test and surface roughness of less than 8 nm. Study of the available methods for coating and selection of the best...

Experimental Investigation of Pressure Oscillations Phenomenon in Test Chamber of High-Altitude Simulator

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nojoumi, Amir Ali (Author) ; Farahani, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Fouladi, Nematollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Depending on the geometry and nozzle pressure, increasing the ratio of the diffuser inlet area to the nozzle outlet area can lead to instability in the high-altitude simulator vacuum chamber startup process. This instability results in the formation of harmonic pressure oscillations throughout the diffuser and the vacuum chamber. In this study, a scaled down second throat diffuser with compressed air has been utilized. The performance of the diffuser has been investigated using four conical nozzles with different expansion ratios to simulate instability at area ratios of 1.27, 1.91, 4.1, and 7.81 with rapid nozzle pressure rise. Experiments were conducted by measuring wall pressures along...
