    Abstract
This paper studies inventory and pricing policies in a non-cooperative supply chain with one supplier and several retailers who are involved in producing, delivering and selling a single product. We consider inventory policies in an information-asymmetric vendor managed inventory. The study consists of different scenarios where a supplier produces the product at the wholesale price to multiple retailers. The retailers also distribute the product in dispersed and independent markets at retail selling prices. The demand rate for each market is a non- decreasing concave function of the marketing expenditures of both local retailers and the manufacturer, but a non-increasing and convex function...

Revenue sharing contract for a VMI with one for one period policy

    Abstract
In this article, we design a revenue-sharing contract to coordinate inventory control decisions in a serial supply chain consisting of one supplier, one vendor, and one retailer. We assume that the retailer faces Poisson demand and his unsatisfied demands will be lost. The retailer applies one-for-one period policy in which he constantly places an order for one unit of product to the vendor in a predetermined time interval which results in a deterministic demand for the vendor. Vendor orders the required quantity from supplier which will be immediately received at the vendor’s warehouse. Solution procedures are developed to find the equilibrium in the vendor managed inventory program with a...

Providing a Green Vendor Management Inventory Model for Perishable Goods and Routing under Demand Uncertainty

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ansari, Kimia (Author) ; Akhavan Niaki, Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The endeavors towards achieving a sustainable management of supply chains have brought about new cardinal logistic aims in addition to the common cost minimization objective. Traditional and sometimes disoriented constraints and assumptions such as demand certainty, infinite shelf life of products and so forth have resulted in a noticeable number of improper decisions made by supply chains’ members. Furthermore, intensified environmental concerns, consumers’ awareness of health problems, growth of demand for high quality products, scarcity of natural resources, etc. have brought many challenges and complexities to inventory management and routing problems. Due to supply chain managers’ and...

Optimization of vendor managed inventory of multiproduct EPQ model with multiple constraints using genetic algorithm

    , Article International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology ; Vol. 71, issue. 1-4 , 2014 , pp. 365-376 ; ISSN: 02683768 Pasandideh, S. H. R ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Hemmati Far, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The aim of this paper is to investigate the vendor managed inventory (VMI) problem of a single-vendor single-buyer supply chain system, in which the vendor is responsible to manage the buyer's inventory. To include an extended applicability in real-world environments, the multiproduct economic production quantity model with backordering under three constraints of storage capacity, number of orders, and available budget is considered. The nonlinear programming model of the problem is first developed to determine the near optimal order quantities along with the maximum backorder levels of the products in a cycle such that the total VMI inventory cost of the system is minimized. Then, a genetic...

Vendor Management Inventory in a Two-echelon System with Discrete Demand

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Goldani, Sanaz (Author) ; Hajji, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research , we consider a two-echelon system including one supplier , one vendor and some buyers. Every buyer has a distinct and uniform demand . The policy for ordering is (r,q) and shortage is not permitted. Buyers have no dependence on each other and every buyer orders it's demand from the vendor by itself . Hence, the vendor will be faced with discrete and different demands. Considering these assumptions, we use vendor management inventory and determine the order quantities for buyers and vendor in order to minimize the total cost of system

Economic Lot Size Formula Under VMI Program with Poisson Demand

    , Article Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering ; Vol. 39, issue. 10 , October , 2014 , p. 7459-7465 ; 13198025 Moarefdoost, M. M ; Zokaee, S ; Haji, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Nowadays, inventory management plays a crucial role in manufacturing supply chains. Vendor-managed inventory (VMI) program is a collaborative initiative that shows considerable performances in managing inventories through the supply system. In this study, we discuss the VMI initiative in a serial manufacturing supply chain when there is an uncertainty in demand and provide an approximate closed-form formula for the economic lot size. In this paper, we consider a two-echelon supply chain system consisting of a manufacturer and a retailer. Under vendor-managed inventory program with centralized decision making, the manufacturer is authorized to manage inventories of all agreed upon stock...

Optimizing Replenishment and Pricing in a Vendor-managed Inventory Supply Chain When Customers Negotiate

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bagherirad, Sonia (Author) ; Modarres Yazdi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study vendor-managed inventory policy in supply chains is investigated and a formulation is developed to optimize replenishments from vendor to retailer and also price for negotiator customers. As a result, we consider a two echelon supply chain containing a vendor and a retailer managed according to VMI policy. The goal is to find the optimal replenishment from vendor to retailer at the beginning of the month and by using dynamic programming approach to maximize the supply chain profit. Demand is nondeterministic and it is supposed Poisson distribution with unknown parameter. We will consider Gamma distribution for this parameter which its parameters are learning in dynamic...

Optimizing a bi-objective inventory model of a three-echelon supply chain using a tuned hybrid bat algorithm

    , Article Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review ; Vol. 70, issue. 1 , October , 2014 , p. 274-292 Sadeghi, J ; Mousavi, S. M ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Sadeghi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper presents a bi-objective VMI problem in a single manufacturer-single vendor multi-retailer (SM-SV-MR) supply chain, which a redundancy allocation problem is incorporated. In the hybridized problem, a manufacturer produces a single item using several machines that work in series, and stores it in a warehouse to replenish one vendor who delivers it to several retailers using the shortest possible route. A novel meta-heuristic, called hybrid bat algorithm (HBA), with calibrated parameters is utilized to find a near-optimum solution. To show the efficiency of HBA, the results are compared to the ones using the traditional BA and a genetic algorithm

Lexicographic max-min approach for an integrated vendor-managed inventory problem

    , Article Knowledge-Based Systems ; Vol. 59 , 2014 , pp. 58-65 ; ISSN: 09507051 Pasandideh, S. H. R ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Niknamfar, A. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Simultaneous reductions in inventory of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished items have recently become a major focus in supply chain management. Vendor-managed inventory is a well-known practice in supply chain collaborations, in which manufacturer manages inventory at the retailer and decides about the time and replenishment. In this paper, an integrated vendor-managed inventory model is presented for a two-level supply chain structured as a single capacitated manufacturer at the first level and multiple retailers at the second level. Manufacturer produces different products where demands are assumed decreasing functions of retail prices. In this chain, both the manufacturer and...

Optimizing a multi-vendor multi-retailer vendor managed inventory problem: Two tuned meta-heuristic algorithms

    , Article Knowledge Based Systems ; Volume 50 , September , 2013 , Pages 159-170 ; 09507051 (ISSN) Sadeghi, J ; Mousavi, S. M ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Sadeghi, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The vendor-managed inventory (VMI) is a common policy in supply chain management (SCM) to reduce bullwhip effects. Although different applications of VMI have been proposed in the literature, the multi-vendor multi-retailer single-warehouse (MV-MR-SW) case has not been investigated yet. This paper develops a constrained MV-MR-SW supply chain, in which both the space and the annual number of orders of the central warehouse are limited. The goal is to find the order quantities along with the number of shipments received by retailers and vendors such that the total inventory cost of the chain is minimized. Since the problem is formulated into an integer nonlinear programming model, the...

    Abstract
Recent researches have shown the importance of improving the supply chain competitiveness by means of strategic alliances. This study considers the retailer-supplier partnership through a vendor-managed inventory (VMI) system and develops an analytical model to explore the effect of important supply chain parameters on the cost savings realized from collaborative initiatives. This model is developed for a two-level supply chain consisting of a single supplier and a single retailer and examines the inventory management practices before and after implementation of VMI. The results of analytical examination show that VMI implementation in economic order quantity model when shortage is...

A sustainable supply chain under VMI-CS agreement with withdrawal policies for imperfect items

    Abstract
Supply Chain (SC) coordination, quality requirements, and environmental issues are the main areas of interest within the field of inventory management. Few studies have integrated these concepts into an inventory problem despite its overwhelming necessity. In this direction, this paper deals with a vendor-buyer SC under the Vendor-Managed Inventory with Consignment Stock (VMI-CS) agreement. According to the agreement, the vendor bears the buyer's financial holding cost in return for the storage of products in the buyer's warehouse. Further, each shipment involves a random fraction of repairable items, which need to be withdrawn from the inventory system. Unlike the existing literature, when...

Evaluating Vendor Managed Inventory Policy considering Partial Variable Backorder

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moshrefi, Fateh (Author) ; Akbari Jokar, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Inventory problems are studied for a long time and many authors have investigated models with shortage phenomenon. To reduce inventory holding cost or decaying items we can have a shortage period in witch a part of demand is backordered; Although we pay fines to pending costumers, as shortage period is extended a larger portion of them will refuse to wait until replenishment. So, calculating an optimal duration for on hand inventory and shortage period with respect to inventory costs has became an interesting research field. However, related studies are rarely appeared in supply chain researches, where an integrated inventory model for a supplier and a retailer is proposed; especially when a...

Optimum Ordering Policy in Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) with Discrete Demand and Backorder

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mofidi, Shahab (Author) ; Haji, Rasoul (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This research deals with a supply chain consisting of one vendor and several retailers. Every retailer orders a fixed discrete quantity in fixed discrete time intervals. Order quantity and order cycle of each retailer could be different from the others. The vendor orders the required quantity to a supplier to fulfill the received demands. Also the vendor orders a discrete quantity, which will be immediately received at the vendor’s warehouse. In this supply chain system, the lead-time is assumed to be zero and shortage is allowed for vendor. The aim is to find minimum vendor’s inventory cost. We proposed a backward Dynamic Programming algorithm for the model. The algorithm creates vendor’s...

Inventory Control Dynamic Models in Decentralized Supply Chain with Coordination

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Afzalabadi, Maryam (Author) ; Haji, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Haji, Rasoul (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Although inventory control under discrete demand in dynamic quantities and time intervals are very common in reality, existing literature has largely ignored them. In this thesis, we investigate the inventory control decisions in a two echelon supply chain. The vendor supplies a product to several retailers, buying discrete quantities in pre-determined time intervals. The order quantity and order cycles for each retailer can be different from others. We have developed a new efficient algorithm to find the optimal ordering policy involves the scheduling and the order quantity of vendor to his supplier to minimize his cost function in infinite time horizon. Moreover, we have designed a revenue...

Optimization of Inventory Routing Problem Based on VMI

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Pourmohsen, Roxana (Author) ; Akbari Jokar, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis introduces a inventory-routing problem under a vendor managed inventory strategy in a two-echelon supply chain. The VMI Routing problem in this study consists of multiple suppliers, multiple retailers and a single item. The suppliers plan inventory replenishments for retailers based on deterministic demand over multiple planning period. Also they allow stock-outs at retailers, which are considered lostsales. Transshipments are allowed, neither between suppliers nor between customers. Retailers can be supplied just by one assigned supplier. Model also considers some constraints on time and capacity. A mixed integer programming formulation is presented to describe the model. We...

On competence of vendor managed inventory in supply chains using basic mathematical inventory models

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Vol. 21, issue. 3 , 2014 , p. 1061-1071 Jasemi, M ; Haji, A ; Gharibi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this study, a two-echelon single-vendor supply chain is selected to do a cost-based comparison between short-term performances of a Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) and a Retailer Managed Inventory (RMI). While the inventory costs include ordering and storing expenses, the rate of consumption and the price of goods are constant, the rate of production and pace of transportation are infinite and shortage is not allowed. This paper, after a comprehensive literature review, is followed by three cases of single retailer, n-retailer and two-retailer chains. Unlike the second case, in the first case, VMI shows an absolute superiority to RMI, and this is the reason for devising the third case in...

A hybrid vendor managed inventory and redundancy allocation optimization problem in supply chain management: An NSGA-II with tuned parameters

    , Article Computers and Operations Research ; Vol. 41, issue. 1 , 2014 , p. 53-64 Sadeghi, J ; Sadeghi, S ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this research, a bi-objective vendor managed inventory model in a supply chain with one vendor (producer) and several retailers is developed, in which determination of the optimal numbers of different machines that work in series to produce a single item is considered. While the demand rates of the retailers are deterministic and known, the constraints are the total budget, required storage space, vendor's total replenishment frequencies, and average inventory. In addition to production and holding costs of the vendor along with the ordering and holding costs of the retailers, the transportation cost of delivering the item to the retailers is also considered in the total chain cost. The...

Two parameter tuned multi-objective evolutionary algorithms for a bi-objective vendor managed inventory model with trapezoidal fuzzy demand

    Abstract
This paper presents a bi-objective vendor managed inventory (BOVMI) model for a supply chain problem with a single vendor and multiple retailers, in which the demand is fuzzy and the vendor manages the retailers' inventory in a central warehouse. The vendor confronts two constraints: number of orders and available budget. In this model, the fuzzy demand is formulated using trapezoidal fuzzy number (TrFN) where the centroid defuzzification method is employed to defuzzify fuzzy output functions. Minimizing both the total inventory cost and the warehouse space are the two objectives of the model. Since the proposed model is formulated into a bi-objective integer nonlinear programming (INLP)...
