    Abstract
The performance and the buzz onset of a supersonic mixed-compression axisymmetric intake are experimentally investigated. Effectsof the slot bleed position, angle, and width onthe intake performance and onthe buzz initiation at three different Mach numbers of 1.8, 2.0, and 2.2 and at a zero degree angle of attack are studied. The intake performance is assessed using the total pressure recovery, mass flow ratio, flow distortion, and bleed mass flow ratio. The results show that applying the bleed at a position near the intake entrance and reducing the bleed entrance slant angle and width all improve the intake performance considerably. Moreover, these parameters postpone the buzz onset. In...

Effects of canard position on wing surface pressure

    Abstract
A series of wind tunnel tests were performed to study the effects of a canard and its position on the downstream flowfield over the wing surface. The wing surface pressure was measured for both canard-off and canard-on configurations. In addition, the canard position effects on the wing were investigated at different angles of attack. The canard was installed at three vertical positions and at two different horizontal distances from the wing apex. The results show a remarkable increase in the wing suction peak for the canard-on configurations. At low to moderate angles of attack, among the various configurations examined in the present experiments, the mid-canard configuration developed a...

Influence of the tip mass on the tip-sample interactions in TM-AFM

    Abstract
This paper focuses on the influences of the tip mass ratio (the ratio of the tip mass to the cantilever mass), on the excitation of higher oscillation eigenmodes and also on the tip-sample interaction forces in tapping mode atomic force microscopy (TM-AFM). A precise model for the cantilever dynamics capable of accurate simulations is essential for the investigation of the tip mass effects on the interaction forces. In the present work, the finite element method (FEM) is used for modeling the AFM cantilever to consider the oscillations of higher eigenmodes oscillations. In addition, molecular dynamics (MD) is used to calculate precise data for the tip-sample force as a function of tip...
