Design and Implement a High Voltage Switching DC Power Supply Based on Voltage Multiplier for High Regulation and Controllable Output Voltage

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahmadi, Abbas (Author) ; Kaboli, Shahriyar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
High DC voltage is widely used in many applications such as X-Ray machines ,CRT , photocopy machines and etc. One idea to produce this high DC voltage is to use transformers, but it will be large in volume. We can increase frequency to reduce the volume of transformers but high voltage of primary and secondary winding will limited this volume reduction. Furthermore high turn ratio in transformers increases non idealities that cause voltage and current spike, and increase loss and noise. The main goal of this thesis is to reduce differential mode voltages on transformers to reduce the volume of power supply. Voltage multiplier will be used to reduce differential mode voltage. Abstract
Microwave power modules are the result of integration of vacuum tubes and their respective power supplies. In these modules, volume and weight are very important factors because the modules are used in many portable applications. There are many parameters that they affect the volume and weight of the microwave power module. High voltage issues are one of these factors because the required voltages of vacuum tubes are high voltage. Thermal management relates to the module volume directly. In high-voltage high-frequency converters as power supplies of vacuum tubes, parasitic elements of the transformer are dominant. Tuning the transformer parameters leads to variation in the volume of the...

    Abstract
A novel high-voltage direct current (HVdc) power supply which has no transformer or voltage multiplier circuit is presented and analyzed in this paper. This is made possible upon the diodes storage delay phenomenon. This proposed power supply is compact, lightweight, and low cost. Its basic structure includes a diode with a proper reverse recovery specification that plays the role of a step-up transformer in the conventional HVdc supplies and a high-voltage capacitor which stabilizes the output voltage. This structure has remarkable advantages over the conventional transformer-based HVdc supplies, such as compactness, a low ripple output, and a low-cost power supply. Performance of the...
