    Experimental and Theoretical Study of the Effect of Moisture on Methane Adsorption and Desorption by Activated Carbon at 273.5 K

    Abstract
    Adsorption and desorption of methane by activated carbon (AC) at constant temperature and at various pressures were investigated. The effect of moisture was also studied. A volumetric method was used, up to 40 bar, at a temperature of 273.5 K. Results of a dry AC sample were compared with those obtained from a moist sample and two different ACs with different physical and surface properties were used. As expected, the results showed that the existence of moisture, trapped in the AC pores, could lead to a decrease in the amount of methane adsorbed and a decrease in the amount of methane delivered during desorption.     Abstract
    A theoretical and experimental study was conducted to accurately determine the amount of adsorption and desorption of methane by various Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) under different physical conditions. To carry out the experiments, the volumetric method was used up to 500 psia at constant temperature of 25 °C. In these experiments, adsorption as well as desorption capacities of four different GAC in the adsorption of methane, the major constituent of natural gas, at various equilibrium pressures and a constant temperature were studied.     Abstract
    The concept of effective pair potential (EPP), in which medium effects and contribution of long-range interactions are added to near-neighbor pair interactions, is a useful tool to derive and calculate the thermodynamic quantities. It has been shown that the extended Lennard-Jones (12, 6, 3) potential is an accurate EPP for many systems. However, the parameters of this EPP are not known for any systems.     In this study, a two-layer feed-forward neural network was constructed and applied to determine a mapping associating mix design and testing factors of cement-nano silica (NS)-rice husk ash ternary blended concrete samples with their performance in conductance to the water absorption properties.     Abstract
    Shape analysis plays an important role in many medical imaging studies. One of the recent shape analysis methods uses the Laplace Beltrami operator which is also used in this paper for hippocampal shape comparison. We proposed a feature vector which consists of size measures and shape descriptors based on Laplace Beltrami eigenvalues and eigenfunctions. The aforementioned feature space is utilised for automatic differentiating normal subjects from epileptic patients as well as distinguishing epileptic patients with left temporal lobe epilepsy (LTLE) from patients with right temporal lobe epilepsy (RTLE).     Urea and inorganic ions are present in some of the physiological systems, e.g. urine. Understanding the interactions in urea/salt/water is a preliminary step to shed light on more complicated behavior of multi-component physiological systems. State-of-the-art models as well as thermophysical properties can be applied to understand the interactions in these systems. In order to determine such interactions densities, mean ionic activity coefficients (MIACs), osmotic coefficients, and solubility were measured in aqueous solutions of urea and different salts.
