    Experimental and Simulation Study of Water Alternating Hydrocarbon - CO2 Mixture Gas in one of Iranian Oil Reservoirs

    Abstract
    In this work the effect of composition changes of the injection gas (Hydrocarbon gas + carbon dioxide) on Water Alternating Gas (WAG) performance in immiscible flooding which has been rarely attended in the available literature is investigated. Core flood experiments are conducted on a 10 cm length Sarvak sandstone core sample at 46 degree C and at immiscible condition, i.e., below the minimum miscible pressure (MMP) of the oil sample using pure CO2 as injected Gas.The influence of injection WAG ratio on oil recovery also is investigated.     Increasing the global demand for energy and decreasing the production rate of oil reservoirs have forced the oil companies to focus on enhanced oil recovery (EOR) extensively. This paper summarizes the design, reservoir simulation, and results of different gas injection scenarios in one of the Iranian complex oil reservoirs. This complex reservoir is located in the south west of Iran and is made up of sandstone, limestone, and dolomite layers. It is an under saturated reservoir with no gas cap but with a strong aquifer.     Abstract
    This paper studies a WAG process for improving the recovery efficiency in light oil reservoirs. Until now, few references have reported the role of CO2 mole percent on recovery improvement in light oil reservoirs. The injected gas was changed, and the effect of composition changes on performance of core flood experiments were conducted at fixed flow rate. Five series of experiments (varied in methane mole percentages, 0, 25, 50, and 75, 100) were systematically examined. The results indicated that the oil recovery efficiency improved with the increasing of CO2 mole ratio and there was also maximum recovery efficiency in this work.     Abstract
    In this work, application of CO2 saturated with silica nanoparticles in continuous/water alternating gas (WAG) injection for heavy oil recovery was investigated which has been rarely attended in the available literature. Core displacement tests were conducted to monitor heavy oil recovery in both continuous and WAG injection schemes. It has been observed that for continuous nano-saturated CO2 injection, the oil recovery is higher than pure CO2 injection. This observation might be explained by alteration of rock wettability to a more water-wet condition.     Availability of hydrocarbon gases at the field makes it attractive for gas-based enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods such as water alternating gas (WAG) injection.
