    Abstract
    In this paper, we consider a code-shifted reference (CSR) for the previously introduced internally coded time hopping UWB communication systems in order to avoid channel estimation. We evaluate the performance of our proposed scheme and compare the results with those of the uncoded coded-shifted reference (CSR) UWB system. Our numerical results show the substantial performance improvement when using the proposed scheme compared to the uncoded CSR system. ©2008 IEEE

    Abstract
    A class of generalized optical orthogonal codes (OOCs), namely, frame time-hopping (FTH) patterns with an extremely large cardinality, are studied for implementing multirate and multiservice (MR/MS) optical CDMA (OCDMA) networks. Conventional MR/MS methods, namely variable spreading rate and parallel mapping, are considered. Using FTH patterns, the problem of low OOC code cardinality in conventional MR/MS schemes is removed. Moreover, several new multicode methods, using subcode concatenation scheme, are proposed for MR/MS OCDMA. The proposed multicode schemes present flexibility for supporting MR/MS applications such as lower implementation complexity and cost, less need for service...

    Abstract
    A unified multiple-access performance analysis and comparison of three multicarrier spread-spectrum multiple-access schemes, namely, MC-CDMA (Multicarrier Code-Division Multiple-Access), MC-FH (Multicarrier Frequency Hopping) and a hybrid of the above systems, called DS-MC-FH (Direct-Sequence MC-FH), in a multirate environment, where each user can have several multirate services, is provided. In MC-CDMA and MC-FH systems, users and their diverse services are differentiated by means of only one kind of signature code. However, in a DS-MCFH scheme, different users and different services of the same user are distinguished through the first and second signature codes, respectively. The...
