    Experimental investigation of leading-edge roughness effects on stationary crossflow instability of a swept wing

    Abstract
    Wind tunnel experiments were conducted to evaluate surface pressure distribution over a semi span swept wing with a sweep angle of 33°. The wing section has a laminar flow airfoil similar to that of the NACA 6-series. The tests were conducted at speeds ranging from 50 to 70 m/s with and without surface roughness. Surface static pressure was measured on the wing upper surface at three different chordwise rows located at the inboard, middle, and outboard stations. The differences between pressure distributions on the three sections of the wing were studied and the experimental results showed that roughness elements do not influence the pressure distribution significantly, except at the inboard...

    Abstract
    It is well-known that helicopters descending fast may enter the so-called Vortex Ring State (VRS), a region in the velocity space where the blade's lift differs significantly from regular regions and high amplitude fluctuations are often present. These fluctuations may lead to instability and, therefore, this region is avoided, typically by increasing the horizontal speed. This paper researches this phenomenon in the context of small-scale quadcopters. The region corresponding to the VRS is identified by combining first-principles modeling and wind-tunnel experiments.     Wind energy has been continuously considered as a green, available, and economical alternative source of energy. For centuries, the transformed wind energy to drag-force has been used for transportation in watercrafts. With improvement of aerodynamics, the airfoil was invented to create and use a higher magnitude aerodynamic force, lift-force, in order to elevate airplanes. Later, the lift-force was horizontally applied as the thrust force in land/water wind-crafts.
