    Abstract
Tungsten trioxide has been prepared by using P-PTA as a precursor on alumina substrates by spin coating method. Palladium introduced on WO 3 film via electrolysis deposition by using palladium chloride as catalytic precursor. The catalytic precursor was introduced on the series of films with different morphologies. X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and XPS were applied to analyze structure and morphology of the fabricated thin films. Then we measured variation of samples' electrical conductivity of pure and Pd added films in air and diluted hydrogen. Addition of Pd resulted in a remarkable improvement of the hydrogen sensing properties of WO 3 by detection of...

Hydrothermal synthesis of CuO nanoparticles: Study on effects of operational conditions on yield, purity, and size of the nanoparticles

    , Article Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research ; Volume 50, Issue 6 , February , 2011 , Pages 3540-3554 ; 08885885 (ISSN) Outokesh, M ; Hosseinpour, M ; Ahmadi, S. J ; Mousavand, T ; Sadjadi, S ; Soltanian, W ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Hydrothermal synthesis of CuO nanoparticles under near-critical and supercritical conditions was investigated from two different standpoints in the current study. The first standpoint was optimization of "yield", "purity", and "size of the nanoparticles" that were optimized at T = 500 °C, time = 2 h, [Cu(NO3)2] = 0.1 mol dm-3, and pH 3. This was achieved by undertaking an orthogonal experiment design methodology and performing different instrumental analyses, such as X-ray diffractometry, inductively coupled plasma spectrometry, and transmission electron microscopy, along with treatment of the data by analysis of variance (ANOVA). The second goal of the study was elucidation of the...

    Abstract
Ultra fine CuO nanoparticles In the range of 2 ± 0.2 nm were synthesized by the supercritical hiydrotliermal method in a batch reactor. Itwas demonstrated that elevating the pH of the Cu2+ precursor solution to around 6 (neutral condition) not only does not lead to excessive agglomeration of the particles, but also reduces particle size and in general promotes their nanoscale characteristics. Prepared nanoparticles were immobilized in the biopolymcric matrix of barium alginate and calcined at different temperatures resulting in micro spherical granules of high porosity and elevated mechanical strength. The fabricated samples were characterized using x-ray diffractometry (XRD), transmission...

Silver nanocube crystals on titanium nitride buffer layer

    , Article Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics ; Volume 42, Issue 10 , 2009 ; 00223727 (ISSN) Akhavan, O ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
Thermally stable cubic silver nanoparticles were grown by simply annealing a silver nano-thickness layer on a crystalline TiN buffer layer deposited on a Si(1 0 0) substrate. Formation of silver nanocubes was investigated by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, x-ray diffractometry and UV-visible spectroscopy. The shapes of the silver nanoparticles were controlled by the thickness of the Ag layer. The silver nanocubes were self-ordered single crystals bounded mainly by {1 0 0} facets. It was found that a change in the shape of the nanoparticles from semi-spherical to cubic resulted in a substantial variation of their surface plasmon resonance absorption peak from 410 to 590...

Visible photoenhanced current-voltage characteristics of Au : TTT iO2 nanocomposite thin films as photoanodes

    , Article Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics ; Volume 43, Issue 10 , 2010 ; 00223727 (ISSN) Naseri, N ; Amiri, M ; Moshfegh, A. Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this investigation, the effect of annealing temperature and concentration of gold nanoparticles on the photoelectrochemical properties of sol-gel deposited Au : TiO2 nanocomposite thin films is studied. Various gold concentrations have been added to the TiO2 thin films and their properties are compared. All the deposited samples are annealed at different temperatures. The optical density spectra of the films show the formation of gold nanoparticles in the films. The optical bandgap energy of the Au : TiO2 films decreases with increasing Au concentration. The crystalline structure of the nanocomposite films is studied by x-ray diffractometry indicating the formation of gold nanocrystals in...

Influence of annealing on the electrochemical behavior of finemet amorphous and nanocrystalline alloy

    , Article Journal of Materials Science ; Volume 45, Issue 2 , 2010 , Pages 546-551 ; 00222461 (ISSN) Asghari Shivaee, H ; Nozad Golikand, A ; Madaah Hosseini, H. R ; Asgari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The electrochemical corrosion behavior of finemet alloy at various heat treatment temperatures was investigated. Thermal behavior and structural changes were studied using differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffractometry, respectively. The electrochemical corrosion of amorphous and annealed samples was investigated in 0.10 M NaOH solution using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and linear sweep voltammetery. Changes in morphology of the samples before and after corrosion were characterized using optical microscope. The results showed that structural relaxation and nanocrystallization during the heat treatment improved corrosion behavior of the alloy. The heat-treated alloy at...

    Abstract
Three-dimensional (3D) bundles of self-assembled lanthanum hydroxide nanorods with average crystallite size of about 20 nm were fabricated via a facile and rapid microwave-assisted chemical route. The obtained material was characterized with X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) investigations. The obtained nanorods have average diameter of about 115 nm and average length of about 730 nm. Self-assembly of primary La(OH)3 nanoparticles and their subsequent anisotropic growth along 〈2 0 0〉 direction, was proposed to be the mechanism for the formation of 3D bundles of nanorods, using TEM images. The thermal behavior of the...

    Abstract
Al-20Si-5Fe-2X (X = Cu, Ni and Cr) ribbons were produced by melt-spinning and consolidated by hot pressing at 400 °C for 60 min. Abstract
In this investigation, the effect of gold nanocrystals on the electrochromical properties of sol-gel Au doped WO3 thin films has been studied. The Au-WO3 thin films were dip-coated on both glass and indium tin oxide coated conducting glass substrates with various gold concentrations of 0, 3.2 and 6.4 mol%. Optical properties of the samples were studied by UV-visible spectrophotometry in a range of 300-1100 nm. The optical density spectra of the films showed the formation of gold nanoparticles in the films. The optical bandgap energy of Au-WO3 films decreased with increasing the Au concentration. Crystalline structure of the doped films was investigated by X-ray diffractometry, which...
