    Abstract
A series of ZIF-8/OND hybrid nanostructures with different percentages of oxidized nanodiamond (OND) was prepared. Then, the adsorptive removal performance of pristine ZIF-8 and its nanohybrids with OND towards methylene blue (MB) was investigated. The fabricated adsorbents were characterized via thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption/desorption, field emission scanning electron microscopy and zeta potential measurements. The maximal adsorption capacity of ZIF-8 (242 mg/g) was found to grow steadily with the increment in OND content and reached an approximate plateau at 343 mg/g for the nanohybrid containing 5 wt% OND, i.e....

Nickel ion removal from aqueous solution using recyclable zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) nano adsorbent: A kinetic and equilibrium study

    Abstract
The adsorption of nickel ions in an aqueous solution system was measured using zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) nanoadsorbent. ZIF-8 crystals were synthesized using the hydrothermal method. Nanoadsorbent was characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM and N2 adsorption analysis. ZIF-8 crystals showed a high surface area of 1303 m2/g and particle size 100–150 nm. The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms model were used to analyze the data. The sufficiently high R2 value of 0.996 resulted from the Langmuir isotherm model demonstrated the perfect performance of this model. The kinetic data were analyzed using the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models of types 1–4. Kinetic studies of the...

Synergistic Wound Healing by Novel Ag@ZIF-8 Nanostructures

    , Article International Journal of Pharmaceutics ; Volume 629 , 2022 ; 03785173 (ISSN) Barjasteh, M ; Mohsen Dehnavi, S ; Ahmadi Seyedkhani, S ; Yahya Rahnamaee, S ; Golizadeh, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, novel zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) functionalized with Ag (Ag@ZIF-8) nanoparticles were synthesized through a green, facile and environmental-friendly process for wound dressing applications. X-ray diffraction revealed that the ZIF-8 and Ag@ZIF-8 were successfully synthesized by green solvents at ambient temperature. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy indicated a homogeneous porous blend of ∼30 nm chitosan/bacterial cellulose (CS/BC) nanofibers embedded with ∼80–110 nm nanoparticles of the ZIF-8 and Ag@ZIF-8. Transmission electron microscopy revealed the Ag@ZIF-8 nanostructures consist of ZIF-8 cores that are covered by 5–20 nm Ag nanoparticles. MTT assay...

ZIF-8/Chitosan hybrid nanoparticles with tunable morphologies as superior adsorbents towards both anionic and cationic dyes for a broad range of acidic and basic environments

    Abstract
A series of nanohybrids using ZIF-8 in the presence of chitosan (CS) at various compositions (0.5–15 wt%) were synthesized. Thorough characterization exhibited that the morphology of the nanoparticles in terms of surface charge, particle size, specific surface area, and pore volume is significantly dominated by the CS content in the hybrid nanoparticles. Amongst the nanoparticles synthesized, a hybrid nanoparticle containing 2 wt% CS, named CS-ZIF-2, represented the largest positive zeta potential and smallest particle size. Moreover, adsorption experiments indicated that CS-ZIF-2 had considerable adsorption capacity against anionic dye (Congo Red, CR) compared with the individual ZIF-8 and...

Fabrication of novel chitosan-g-PNVCL/ZIF-8 composite nanofibers for adsorption of Cr(VI), As(V) and phenol in a single and ternary systems

    , Article Carbohydrate Polymers ; Volume 224 , 2019 ; 01448617 (ISSN) Bahmani, E ; Koushkbaghi, S ; Darabi, M ; ZabihiSahebi, A ; Askari, A ; Irani, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The chitosan-grafted-poly(N-vinylcaprolactam) (chitosan-g-PNVCL) nanofibers were synthesized via electrospinning method. ZIF-8 metal-organic frameworks nanoparticles were incorporated into the nanofibers for adsorption of Cr(VI), As(V) and phenol from water. The BET, FTIR, XRD and SEM analysis were carrfried out to obtain the characteristics of nanofibers. The optimum parameters of ZIF-8 content, pH, contact time, adsorbent dosage, and initial concentration of adsorbates on the Cr(VI), As(V) and phenol removal were studied. The reusability of synthesized nanofibers for five sorption-desorption cycles was also examined. The maximum experimental adsorption capacity of the...

ZIF-8/PEDOT @ flexible carbon cloth electrode as highly efficient electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction

    , Article International Journal of Hydrogen Energy ; 2019 ; 03603199 (ISSN) Asadian, E ; Shahrokhian, S ; Iraji Zad, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Design and fabrication of highly efficient and low-cost oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) electrocatalysts is of paramount importance for practical applications. Herein, we proposed a cost-effective, metal-free catalyst based on ZIF-8 metal-organic framework nanoparticles/electro-polymerized poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) film on the surface of flexible carbon cloth (CC) electrode (ZIF-8/PEDOT/CC) via a two-step procedure. For this purpose, worm-like PEDOT nanostructures were deposited on the surface of carbon fibers using a pulse electro-polymerization technique followed by facile growth of ZIF-8 polyhedra nanoparticles via a chemical bath deposition method. The ORR measurements in...

    Elsevier B.V  2021
    Abstract
The current article discusses some unprecedented information about the improvement in forward osmosis (FO) performance of polyethersulfone/polyamide (PES/PA) membranes, mainly focused on water flux and selectivity along with resistance to fouling phenomenon; which itself is brought in by the introduction of pre-modified zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 MOF nanoparticles. An investigation has been conducted on ZIF-8 nanoparticles surface with hydrophilicity feature to evaluate their potential for utilization in active polyamide layer of FO membranes for the first time, free from any decrease in water flux value (when hydrophobic ZIF-8 is exploited solely) and selectivity (when mSiO2 with...

    Abstract
In the last decades, numerous attempts have been made to prevent microbial pollution spreading, using antibacterial agents. Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) belongs to a subgroup of metal organic frameworks (MOFs) merits of attention due to the zinc ion clusters and its effective antibacterial activity. In this work, Ag-doped magnetic microporous γ-Fe2O3@SiO2@ZIF-8-Ag (FSZ-Ag) was successfully synthesized by a facile methodology in room temperature and used as an antibacterial agent against the growth of the Gram-negative Escherichia coli and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Several characterization methods were applied to analyze the properties of the materials, and the...
