  7. Abstract:
  8. Degradation of signal to noise ratio (SNR) in today's low voltage circuits has been a challenging problem for analogue circuit designing. This problem is produced due to supply voltage reduction and noise level consistency in today's analogue circuits. Great efforts have been done in literatures for noise reduction in some analogue circuits, like low noise amplifiers, but there is no general method for noise reduction in active filters and introduction of a general method for noise reduction in active filters which are in vast usage in all analogue circuits, has always been demanded by circuit designers. In this project, a general method for noise reduction in active RC filters is introduced which has no precedence in literatures and is applicable to all active RC filters. In this method, active element noise is reduced by applying appropriate compensating paths. These paths have no negative effects on the other specifications of filter. This method is reasonable from the viewpoint of power consumption and chip die area and in some cases compensating paths can be realized only with the aid of passive circuits. Also in this project, for proofing the competency of introduced method, a bandpass active RC filter is designed and implemented in 0.18 μm CMOS based on this novel method. This filter is applicable in FM radio receivers. All post layout simulation results comply with predicted theoretical results.
