  7. Abstract:
  8. This existing research has been conducted to reach quick evaluation instructions to pipe earthquake damages in the piping systems inside the industrial complexes. In the old complexes of such kinds there are cases where field inspections and quality evaluations are urgently required subject to peculiar conditions affecting each piping system inside the units and in certain cases subject to lack of access to the as built-drawings. However, so far any definite instruction hasn’t been available for a quick evaluation of likely damages in piping system: all because of various pipe types, complexity of pipes geometry, different temperatures and pressures in different sections. In this research project it has been strived that by means of identifying key affecting parameters on the vibrating behavior of such systems, a criteria and a procedure to be defined- according which while field inspection is being practiced in accordance with the quick evaluation method, the cases in which damaging risks due to the earthquake are with a defined characteristic can be selected and sent for more precise quantitative studies. Therefore, in each piping system a combination of series of primary identified elements is considered. On this basis Check Lists are drawn up in which tables and graphs for each primary element are presented, by means of which the determining of geometrical characteristics of each primary element and the vibration loading conditions affecting on it, the imaginary limit for vibration function (operation) of each primary element is defined. However, if the deemed element is not within the said range the case is found damaging risk on the quick evaluation method, otherwise it is considered safe and reinforcement is not needed. In this way if at field inspection stage some cases need to be reinforced they can be identified with a rather good precision. At the end of this research project in order to ensure the precision and adequate quantity a few problems have been solved and the results show the appropriateness of the proposed method. It’s worthy mentioning that in this process the Japan Regulations for Vibration Design Instructions of Pipe Grids has been a reference for certain presumptions and studies.
