  7. Abstract:
  8. The aim of this study at the outset is synthesis of ligands with the ability to bridge formation between two groups i.e. C60 and Cobalt Schiff base complex (CoSALEN). Hence, four Schiff base ligands with pyridine electron donor moiety in one side, and such electron donor moiety pyridine, phenol and aniline in another side were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, 13C¬NMR, 1HNMR and IR Spectroscopy. In next step the interaction of these Schiff base ligands with CoSALEN complex and Fullerene C60, in the mixture of two solvents, i.e. toluene/dimethylsulfoxide and benzene/methanol was explored separately by UV-Visible Spectroscopy and their kinetic studies were also undertaken respectively. On the other hand the triplex interaction of CoSALEN, fullerene C60 and each of ligands in the same solvents were investigated by UV-Visible Spectroscopy. The remarkable changes in triplex mixtures confirmed the ligands behavior as a bridging group between CoSALEN and fullerene C60. According to the obtained rate constants, the rate of triplex interactions for different Schiff bases were shown remarkable differences and the trend has shown below: L2 > L3 > L1 ̴ L4 The effect of solvent were also explored and it was found that the rate of reaction in the mixture of both ligands and CoSALEN, and the triplex interactions of ligands, CoSALEN and fullerene C60 in methanol as solvent of the reaction were remarkably more than in dimethylsulfoxide solvent.
