  7. Abstract:
  8. Design of thick-walled spherical and cylindrical vessels as fluids containers of high gradient thermal loading is a challenging issue. Using these tanks in high pressure and temperature gradient, particularly in chemical industries, needs to use new methods in design. Elasto-Plastic solution for thick-walled hollow spherical and cylindrical tanks made of FG materials subjected to internal pressure and temperature loading is presented. The power law modeling is used for through-the-thickness variation of mechanical properties. This method is using the new advanced materials with high pressure and thermal strength in fabricating these vessels. One of these materials is functionally graded (FG) materials that have been used in many applications. The properties of FGMs vary from one point to another in specific direction gradually. Ever increasing use of these materials in structures under high pressure and temperature gradient necessitates the study of their Elasto-Plastic behavior. Surveying the literature, limited research works have been found concerning the Elasto-Plastic analysis of FG plates, and a few researches have been found in the Elasto-Plastic analysis of thick-walled FG vessels. Tresca yield criterion with elastic-perfectly-plastic and work hardening assumption is imposed for description of material behavior in the plastic zone. The validity of the results is confirmed by simplifying the results for the special case of isotropic vessels. Comparing the results of Elasto-Plastic analysis of the FG vessels made of Al A359/SiCp materials with those of isotropic vessels, it is concluded that these vessels have improvement in Thermo-Elasto-Plastic behavior.
