  7. Abstract:
  8. Transonic speed is one of the most important flight regimes. There are two main significances related to it. First, all of the supersonic air vehicles should pass through this regime to reach to their final speed. Second, nowadays most of the commercial airplanes fly in nearsonic speeds. According to nonlinear nature of the flow through the speeds, the related researchers haven’t been successful in development of a comprehensive theory as well as subsonic and supersonic ones. So, transonic flow is one of the most critical regimes in wind tunnel testing. In order to eliminate the shock-boundary layer interaction and wave cancellation, perforated walls and side suction are used in test section of transonic wind tunnels. Till now, there haven’t existed such a wind tunnel in Iran and there haven’t been performed any transonic test. In the presented thesis, which is a part of an industrial project for establishment and calibration of transonic phase of an industrial wind tunnel, the effects of suction and wall porosity on the surface pressure and aerodynamic forces in transonic wind tunnel have been investigated. During the project the suitable perforated wall was designed and manufactured and the empty test section was calibrated. In the next step for integral calibration of the tunnel, the effect of porosity and side suction has been investigated in a series of tests. At first, the effects of these parameters were investigated on pressure distribution of a designed and manufactured 2–D airfoil. In the next step, a 3-D standard calibration was designed and manufactured in two different scales and at last tested in the tunnel and all the results were compared with published data of the other tunnels.
