  7. Abstract:
  8. In this work, biosorption of Zirconium from aqueous solution by A.niger as a biosorbent was investigated. For this goal, both of live and dried biomasses were used. The effect of factors pH, temperature, contact time, initial concentration of metal and biomass dosage were investigated on biosorption. To preparing dried biomass, the live biomass was dried at 60-80 º C for 24 hr and then this dried cell was crushed by mortar and pestle and the drying biomass was ground through a set of sieve with 100 mesh. Also, effect of the pretreatment of biomass by NaOH 0.5 M on biosorption was studied. Optimization of factors was performed by Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The experiments were designed based on Central Composite Design (CCD). 20 experiments were designed for optimization of three factors solution pH, initial ion concentration and biomass dosage. For live and pretreated biomasses Freundlich isotherm and for dried biomass Langmuir isotherm were suitable. Both live and dried biomasses followed second order kinetic model. Equilibrium times were obtained 120 and 30 min for live and dried biomasses, respectively. The optimum conditions to achieve maximum removal efficiency (in 98% target) were found to be 2.76, 66 mg/l and 1.96 g/l, respectively, for solution pH, initial ion concentration and biomass dosage. All of the factors and interactions of models obtained from ANOVA, except of interaction between initial ion concentration and biomass dosage, had statistical importance.
