  8. Smart wellsareunconventional wells with down-hole devices installed on their production tubing. Such wells allow us to continuouslymonitor flow rates, pressures, temperature and periodically adjust down-holevalves setting without any production intervention. This makes smart well technology to be considered as one of the most significantbreakthroughs in reservoir management technologies. So, modeling and simulating smart wellsautomated action represents a challenge in forecastingtheir performances.One of the easiest ways to model such wells is to transform theminto a multi-segment well with the ability tocontrol each segment independently. By using the commercial reservoir simulator, ECLIPSE, above purpose can be easily achieved.In this respect, wells will be modeled using multi-segment well modeling in a real field utilizing ECLIPSE. Then,by integrating the simulator and an optimizer developed in MATLAB, valve setting optimization will be implemented in order to maximize cumulative oil production while reducing produced water.But, widespread use of inflow control valves is not always feasible. So, utilizing streamline simulation, first a hierarchical optimization process will be implemented inorder to optimize injection/production rates and detect sensitive wells which need to become smart wells. Integrating the hierarchical algorithm and valve setting optimization process will result in reaching the optimized scenario with lowest cost and time wasted
