  7. Abstract:
  8. A power plant cooling tower is like a tower, which needs to be studied very carefully from the aerodynamics point of view. Both the aerodynamics forces on the plume and intake stram are affected by the local winds and the performance of cooling tower decreases. There is a symmetric turbulent flow through the cooling tower if there is no. Wind blowing creates different vorticies, which appear in the lower section of the tower. Their periodic and wuick movments causes deficiency in towers performance and efficiency. Additionally there is wind effect on the plane of cooling tower and this causes a chocked plume which is named Wind Cover. The objective of this study is to decrease the adverse effect of wind on the cooling tower performance. This is done by uding both computational and experimental tools. In the computational part, we obtain the imperfect flow pattern caused by wind blowing and evalue its effect on the cooling tower performance. To reduce the imperfect influence of the winds, we design some obstacles as wind breaks. In the experimental part, we design a scaled model for the real one. The scale is 1:450. The designed wind breaks are also scaled and assembled. The assembly is tested in the wind tunnel in order to study the effects of wind breaks on the cooling tower performances. Based on our study, if there are more mass flow rates thorugh the cooling tower or less pressure drops in the radiators, the cooling tower performance is improved
