  7. Abstract:
  8. In this thesis one of the sensorless methods which exploits the existing anisotropies of the rotor is utilized to estimate rotor position. In order to implement this method, first a high frequency voltage is injected in a specific, time-varying direction and then the corresponding current response would be observed in order to estimate the rotor saliency position. The estimation of rotor position would be more precise as the magnetic anisotropy due to rotor saliency increases and as a result the effect of noise and different disturbances in estimation of rotor position would be decresed. The effect of stator resistence is one of these disturbances which is usually neglected as a result of the high frequency of the carrier voltage. Neglecting of stator resistance would result in a remarkable error especially when stator resistance is considerable in comparison with rotor saliency or when the frequency of injected carrier voltage isn’t high enough. In this thesis the existing error in estimation of rotor position that is caused by stator resistance is considered and a solution is proposed in order to compensate it. As in a non-salient machine the main anisotropy is caused by the saturation of the main flux, the use of the proposed method is limited to salient-pole machines in which rotor saliency accounts for the main anisotropy. As a result the angle between the stator flux and rotor direction which is called the load angle should be estimated in order to make use of the proposed method in a non-salient machine. In this thesis it’s shown that just by applying some simple changes in implementation of the proposed method, a presice estimation of the load angle can also be made and as a result the proposed method can even be utilized in non-salient machines. Also in this thesis it’s shown that the machine parameters such as rotor inductances and stator resistance can also be estimated using the high frequency carrier injection method. Precise estimation of machine parameters would result in a good estimation of some important machine quantities like stator flux which is considered as a very important parameter in controlling of electrical machines
