  7. Abstract:
  8. In the earthquake conditions, the collapse of cooling towers can stop power station activities and heavy financial losses that can be led increasing disaster dimentions finally. In this thesis for analysis of concrete hyperbolic cooling towers and generally for analysis of shell structures, the endurance time (ET) method benefits are used. Also with comparision between ET and standard time history method (THA), accuracy and probable errors of ET method are discussed. It should be noted that ET method is a new time history based method of seismic analysis expect that in this method, structure is imposed under specific intensifying acceleration functions. ET method is capabable for nonlinear dynamic analysis and since decreasing analysis efforts causes significant reduction in time of analysis. In this project, seven actual accelograms and 3 IN series of ET function are selected and these records are scaled according to code criterias. In linear phase of this project, six shell structures including two domes, two half-cylinder roofs and two hyperbolic cooling tower shells, and in the nonlinear phase, a sample of executed RC hyperbolic cooling tower are modeled. Then with applying seven earthquake records, time history responses of structures are evaluated. The results show that in the linear and nonlinear phases, ET responses of shell structures have good consistency with TH method, and in comparison with RSM method, the results of ET method are closer to THA method. Also it is concluded that result scattering of three ET analyisis is less than scattering results of TH method (with considering seven accelograms) and in analysis of shell structures and concrete hyperbolic cooling towers using a ET function (instead of three) doesn’t affect on obtained results
