Studying Detection of Exo-Planets by Gravitational Microlensing

- In this thesis first we will review gravitational lensing and microlensing, then we will introduce all direct and indirect methods for detecting exo-planets. gravitational microlensing is one of these methods in detecting exo-planets. In the second part first we will explain a powerful numerical method for calculating magnification, position and the shape of images by combining of tree code and inverse rays hooting algorithm. Then we simulated the caustic crossing of Hot Jupiters using that algorithm. Finally with performing Monte-Carlo simulation we will obtain the detection efficiency for detecting this class of exo-planets during caustic crossing and we will estimate the number of these microlensing events with the signal of Hot Jupiters during 10 years observation. In the next part of this thesis we will introduce a new strategy for detecting high magnification microlensing events towards M87 galaxy by Hubble space telescope. With this new strategy detecting M87 by HST during 1 or few days observation with one data point inone orbit around Earth the high magnification microlensing events will be detected, however these events have more chance to be detected. Then with performing Monte-Carlo simulation we obtain the detection efficiency. We show that the number of events during one day observation with this new strategy is about 7. In the last part we will investigate detecting exo-planets by lucky imaging method. This method will decrease the atmospheric turbulence of images. Then will introduce a new strategy for detecting gravitational microlensing events and planetary microlensing events by lucky imaging method.
