  7. Abstract:
  8. Recently there is a huge growth in industrial automation. Industrial automation is defined as trying to do some tasks automatically and without direct human intervention. Using industrial automation may help increasing efficiency, quality and safety. Industrial automation also could increase Competitiveness and flexibility of industries. In human life there is a large area of activities that automation could be used and different industries like oil and gas companies, electrical generation and distribution industries, medical companies, textile and other industries could use automation to increase their efficiency. But recently there is a growing demand for building automation and home automation especially with development of smart grid this demand is growing more and more. Smart grid is defined to be an integration of electrical energy distribution and generation with communication systems. By smart grid development there are a lot of added value services that are brought to costumers by smart grid. Some of these services have mutual benefits for both of consumers and electrical production companies. By these services there could be decrement in costumer power consumption and also in total power consumption prices. One of main ideas behind smart grid development is distributed power generation and storage using small solar cells and wind turbines on consumers’ behalf and in their home. By this consumers can save produced energy and sell their produced energy in pick demand hours. This method helps to decrease pick demand hours power consumption and can help in power cut off probability. In the following thesis we first will try to introduce smart grid and their advantages to be used in home applications. Then we will suggest some new methods to decrease costumer’s power consumption price. Load shifting, electrical appliance standby power omissions, trying to motivate consumers to reduce their power consumption by comparing their power consumption with their active neighbors are examples of suggested methods in this thesis. By designing a graphical user interface we tried to implement some of these ideas and also we designed a user interface for local power distribution centers to help them in monitoring different consumer’s power consumption. In the next section of this thesis we will try to analyze some of important Quality of Service parameters regarding in home applications for smart gird. In this section we will try to analyze different challenges may arise by using wireless sensor networks for in home = applications. Some of these challenges could be noise interference from working home appliances, shadow and multipath fading that are more critical in home applications than outdoor applications and so. Some of these challenges may not be detected or accurately measured by theoretical calculations. In the following thesis we will try to analyze challenges of real implementation of wireless sensor network in a home scenario. So we will use nodes of Crossbow Company and Cleode Company to make a real sensor network and by that we will analyze Quality of Service parameters.
