  7. Abstract:
  8. Environmental flows supply critical contributions to wetland health and economic development, while wetlands are one of the richest ecosystems due to diversity of the ecological species. The Shadegan Wetland is the located in the south-west of Iran, at the top of the Persian Gulf. It is the largest wetland of the country with an area of almost 400,000 hectares. The wetland plays a significant role, both hydrological and ecological in the natural functioning of the northern coast of the Gulf. Moreover, Shadegan Protected Zone is of high economic and social importance, as its vegetation is assumed the main source of feeding the wildlife species. On the other hand, the wetland has the potential to become a tourism destination and holds many socioeconomic advantages for local residents. The water regime is threatened by upstream abstraction of water for irrigation, and the saline discharge from sugar cane industries and irrigation schemes. This will cause in an overall reduction in wetland water quantity and quality. This paper will create Bayesian Decision Network (BDN) models that will help decision-makers in environmental flow allocations for the Shadegan Wetland. The methodology used here develops the actual practice used for the rivers, and also generates models based on the local data for the ecological endpoints of the studied location, which could be used in similar cases. The final products will desire to promote transparent decision-making and recommend strategies for maintaining the required flow for different important species in the wetland.
