  7. Abstract:
  8. Collapsible soils such as loess, sustain large stress under dry condition but they show a high level and sudden decrease in their volume by increase of moisture. So they are not suitable for construction works. This research present the utilization of different percent of lime for stabilization of gorgan loess. To this end several simple oedometer tests performed on stabilized loess and collapse potential was obtained. Also several unsaturated oedometer test performed for found the effect of matric suction on unsaturated stabilized loess. These tests were performed under constant matric suction and varring vertical stress and also constant vertical stress and varring matric suction. The result show that the optimal percent of lime and moisture for stabilization of gorgan loess is 3% and 11% by order. also in constant matric suction tests the collapse potential of loess increases with increase of matric suction, And collapse potential and ultimate settelmente of loess decrease with increase of the percent of lime. The critical stress obtained for distributed and stabilized samples in suction controlled oedometer tests are in good agreement with the model proposed by Wheeler and Sivakumar as well.
