  7. Abstract:
  8. During the most recent years, investigating novel nanomaterials based on porous strucures has become an interesting field of research. Among these kinds of materials, mesoporous silica has extensive applications in catalysis, absorbants and biomedical engineering. By combining specific surface characteristics of mesoporous silica with magnetic properties of iron oxide nanoparticles, new nanocomposites owing unique properties, can be obtained. In the present research, magnetic mesoporous nanocomposite has been synthesized. Iron oxide nanoparticles were produced through reduction of water solution containing Fe2+/Fe3+ ions, followed by hydrothermal treatment of precipitan. Then, iron oxide nanoparticles were coated with a thin layer of silica. As a consequence, the next mesoporous silica layer would be conducted to form mainly on the surface of previous coating, tending to preserve spherical core/shell morphology of nanocomposite particles. In addition, calcination in argon atmosphere at 550 °C eliminated the templating agent, CTAB, thoroughly. So that the oriented pore structure left behind. In order to determine crystal structure of iron oxide nanoparticles, X-Ray diffraction analysis was performed. FE-SEM observations were also used to define morphology and approximate particle size of nanocomposite. Utilizing FTIR analysis, the formation of Si-O-Si bonds was confirmed. Nitrogen absorption behavior through BET method proved porous characteristics of nanocomposite. The amount of BET surface area was as high as 295 m2/g and the nanocomposite possessed remarkable magnetic supersaturation of 30 emu/g. Concerning surface and magnetic properties of nanocomposite, it could be a potential candidate for further therapeutic and diagnosis biomedical applications
