  7. Abstract:
  8. Routing is one of the most challenging areas in wireless sensor networks because it has a significant impact on energy usage, transmit delay and network fault tolerance. In many situations, network nodes move around and it cause numerous challenges, namely changes in routing paths, failure in sending packets or maybe there is no end-to-end path. Opportunistic routing is one of the best solutions to these problems in mobile wireless sensor networks, thus it provides more efficient routing and less energy consumption in comparison with traditional routings.
In opportunistic routing, nodes try to utilize every opportunity to send their packets to sink. When two nodes are encountered, the sender has to decide about relaying the packet to the next node. If nodes give a copy of each message to every node they encounter, an immense amount of traffic consumes energy of every node in a short time which is a disaster in wireless sensor networks due to their limited and not renewable energy sources. On the other hand, if nodes relay the messages rarely, the end-to-end delay will increase extremely and the messages will deliver when they are worthless. So an efficient opportunistic routing should wisely decide about sending a message to an encountered node.
In this thesis, after studding the proposed methods for opportunistic routing in various fields like delay tolerant networks, wireless sensor networks, Ad-hoc networks and opportunistic networks, I have proposed an opportunistic routing method which it uses information like node direction to decide wisely about sending or not sending the packets to the next node. In addition, a desired level of usable energy for each packet is defined and the network will uses this specific amount of energy for sending a single packet. This level of energy usage is guaranteed by utilizing mathematical and statistical method to compute it before deploying the network in real world scenario
