  7. Abstract:
  8. Nowadays one of the important issues in earthquake engineering is seismic vulnerability assessment of structures and selecting the best retrofit method for them. On the other hand due to probabilistic nature of earthquake occurrence and uncertainties exist in determination of structure capacity, probabilistic approaches in seismic assessment and retrofit of structure, are highly interested by many researchers. Therefore in this research four probabilistic based methods in seismic retrofit and assessment of structures are proposed and to illustrate the application of these methods, which are summarized below, some RC frames are investigated:
1- Seismic assessment of structures using new probabilistic based damage index:
The main advantages of the proposed damage index in comparison with the other existing damage indexes, is showing seismic behavior of a damaged structure by an earthquake in future probable seismic event and also the necessity of seismic retrofit of the damaged structure.

2- Risk based seismic assessment of structures:
Probabilistic seismic vulnerability of structures based on risk and different risk acceptance levels is investigated in this method. Seismic vulnerability Index, Remaining lifetime of the structure and also importance and knowledge factor are the main parameters used in risk evaluation of structures with the proposed seismic risk index.

3- Probabilistic based prioritization of methods for seismic retrofit of structures using multi criteria decision making process:
Due to different criteria used for selecting the best retrofit method for a structure, including qualitative and quantitative ones, a new probabilistic based prioritization procedure for different seismic retrofit techniques of a structure using analytical hierarchy process (AHP) is proposed.

4- Probabilistic based economic feasibility assessment of the seismic retrofit methods for structures: As economic criteria are very important in decision making for the seismic retrofit of structures, in this method the benefit of a seismic retrofit method is applied to compute its economic feasibility index using cost benefit analysis
