The effect of irradiating photon on biological qualities of Artemia/Artemia cysts

  8. Artemia is a small crustacean which has adapted to live in high salty water.The name of Artemia has been chosen according to its appearance. The adult Artemia is viviparous in the proper conditions whereas in tough conditions it reproduces the cysts. About 20 hours after the floating of cysts in water, its crust splits and after a while nauplii is produced by the free swimming. The changes of the hatching percentage of cysts Artemia and also the changes of Artemia Urmiana's size have been evaluated in this report.
    The hatching percentage of cysts have been studied under LED radiation of red, orange, green and blue wavelengths, under red diode laser radiation and also under the combination of red and blue wavelengths radiation with different delay time. We have also studied the size of Artemia under the radiation of incoherent LEDs light such as red, orange, green and blue. 28 hours after hydrating, the highest hatching percentage in comparison with control group happened for the sample exposed to red region and the amount of growth in comparison with control group was 14.28 percent in the red LED and 19.86 percent for laser radiation. In combined wavelengths with different delay time, the most hatching percentage was for the 10 minutes break between blue and red illumination. The optimal wavelength for the Artemia's size was the red part of the spectrum in which the embryo in the cysts had the most absorption. The changes in the hatching percentage can be related to the changes that happened in the tissue because of the radiation that results in more oxygen consumption by the embryo in the cysts. So the embryo will breathe better and it's capability for hatching will increase
