  7. Abstract:
  8. Cars with high center of gravity, such as SUV-Sport Utility Vehicles- have high tendency to roll over in high speeds and rapid maneuvers. An idea formerly proposed is to use a high speed rotating disc like a gyroscope on the onset of the rollover to exert a high stabilizing moment on the vehicle, and consequently prevent rollovers. Also using two counter rotating discs with opposite nutation will prevent interference with the car other degrees of freedom. To reduce the interference of the spinning discs with the vehicle dynamics, the discs are to be brought to speed by the action of a high accelerating mechanism during the rollover process(similar to the action of an airbag). This project focused on the development of this system and its implementation in a real vehicle. To do this, the vehicle’s roll dynamic was modeled. Based on the calculated roll moment and available space in the vehicle for installing the stabilizer system, the gyro’s disc geometry, speed, and nutation mechanism were designed. Moreover, applicable algorithms for predicting imminent rollover were investigated. To prove the validity of the idea, a subscale prototype was fabricated. The prototype’s fabrication process, test and result are presented in detail. Many ideas were proposed to develop the conceptual design into an applicable system in real vehicles. The concept of accelerating the disc by using pressurized gasses from a fast burning solid fuel running an impulse turbine on the rim of the gyro disk . Design process of the system is introduced in detail
