  7. Abstract:
  8. In building construction, a rigid vertical diaphragm is capable of transferring lateral forces from exterior walls, roofs and floors to the ground foundation in a direction parallel to its planes.[1] Refractory elements against lateral forces contain moment frames, shear walls or a combination of them. In this research, shear walls are discussed. Nowadays, in cities having old contexture, some of the buildings should be destructed. Thus, modern buildings should be built. Due to the limitation of adequate space and lack of symmetrical plan, buildings must be built in asymmetrical form. To design the structures with asymmetrical plan, it is necessary to study buildings with presence of shear-walls in asymmetrical locations. Here, the effects of placing shear walls in asymmetrical reinforced concrete structures are investigated. The structures have 5, 10, 15 and 20 stories. Also, three kinds of wall arrangements are considered and three asymmetrical plans are assumed. Three different types of soils are included in the study. Inorder to do this process, ETABS software is utilized.
The criteria used for proposing the best shear wall arrangements included the followings: (1) The Amount of Lateral Displacement of Last Floor, (2) The Story Drifts in X and Y Directions, (3) The Story Shears, (4) The Building’s Weight Including Columns and Beams, (5) The Shear Wall’s Weight in each plan, (6) The Shear Wall’s Size,
The results of this study demonstrate that the shear walls proximity to the center of mass, appropriate shear walls distribution in X and Y directions, and locating shear-walls in internal frames are the most effective factors in obtaining optimum results
