  7. Abstract:
  8. Fuel system is one of the most important parts of pulse detonation engine which has the responsibility of fuel, oxidizer and also purge gas in the different operational frequencies of engine. Although pulse detonation engines are sort of air breathing engines and purge gas and oxidizer one in the same unit in their structure, due to existence idea in the pulse detonation rocket engines coverage of functional condition, fuel, oxidizer and purge gas, will study it in three different structures.
In this study purpose is improvement of the pulse detonation engine of Sharif University which will provide as the possibility of safe functional condition and high operational frequency in that. In the first step according to existence history a suitable high frequency fuel system without limitation in required mass flow rate of engine has been proposed the considered idea in designing fuel system is using of rotary valve. Fuel system based on the mentioned idea has been designed, built, and tested. Experimental study show that manufactured fuel system has the possibility to reach operational frequency and high mass flow rate for the engine.
Considering the inherent problem of a mechanical system in producing dynamical seal, the performance of rotary valve in this regard has been examined. Results show that in various operational frequencies. There is five to fourteen percent leakage in the system. Leakage in all three gates such as fuel, oxidizing and purge gas has been examined use of O-ring in inappropriate structure and demand of higher technology for construction are the reasons of not reaching required results.
In continue, with regard to non-reaching to operational and safe conditions along with performance of high frequency in the rotary valve, we proposed an innovative plane. In this plan we used the idea of mechanical sealing to prevent leakage in fueling system. In this structure we used graphite 3205 as a soft surface and steel MO40 as a hard surface. Revenue of new plan has been examined by various numerical and experimental models in operational condition and the possibility of reaching to higher operational frequency for pulse detonation engines based on the new fueling system has been verified. At on this basis of commercial standards, with small and neglect able leakage has been provided in 100 frequencies. Meanwhile in the new plan the whole fuel system has placed in a solid structure which the feasibility of installing it in the engine will be provided.
In continue, a new ignition system for pulse detonation engine has been designed, manufactured and tested. The results show that new system has no limitation in operational frequency and its performance delay is less than one microseconds. Therefore, the existence problem in previous system has been resolved and a structure according to the fuel system of a rotary valve has been proposed.
