  7. Abstract:
  8. The subject of this thesis to assessment environmental impacts of active desalination plants in Kish Island, which explains the problems derived from concentrate discharges in to the sea, sewage network, absorbing wells and ground surface.
It also studies its impacts on land and marine ecosystem and underground aquifers that are strategic resources in Kish Island. In addition, the environmental studies done in other countries, the existing regulations and by laws in the field of environmental impacts of desalination plants and concentrate discharges are re-mentioned. Concentrates contain chemicals, which are used in pre-filtration of MED and Ro systems, which are dangerous for marine environment. Besides, high level of salinity in Ro system concentrate, like high temperature and lack of soluble oxygen in concentrate of MED system are risky for marine environment. In this study of receptive area, a great decline in the amount of resolved oxygen, high temperature and very high salinity rate are among important effects. Besides, concentrate discharges into the urban sewage network leads to secondary effects like strong unpleasant odor into the open sites of the network connecting to pumping stations. Disorders in the trend of sewage filtering and impossibility of the appropriate use of filtered effluent due to high salinity are one of the basic problems. Saving and maintaining the ground aquifer resources from the environmental impacts of desalination plants is a priority. Regarding the only possible way of producing fresh water in Kish Island, which has prompted the usage of desalination plants, it is necessary to decrease the concentrates environmental impacts and discontinue discharging effluent into the sea. This relies on new methods and benefiting from the marine tools. Regarding the environmental impacts of desalination plants in private land centers ,like pollution of ground water, soil and negative effects on the collection process and sewage filtering on Kish Island, If the in charge department supply the required water of these centers, we can prevent these centers from continuing to work, and stop the increasing environmental impacts.
